Flanged ball valves with Teflon® and O-ring seal at the shaft of Series KM-O and KM-T
Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EC (PED): [only if Art. 3 Clause 1.3 or Art. 3 Clause 3 applies]:
The valves are conform with this directive. The conformity assessment procedure applied as per Annex III of the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EC is for
category I to III, module H1. - Category IV does not apply to isolation valves.
The valves can be used for various fluids within the permissible pressure and temperature limits, taking the respective influences on the pressure equipment into
consideration. Use in fluid group 1 and 2 is permitted.
The fluid resistance of the valve incl. the components shall be checked for the operating conditions prior to use.
Machinery Directive 2006/42 EC (MD) [applies only if the valve is operated other than by hand]:
The vale is an "incomplete machine" within the meaning of Art. 1 and is intended for installation in a pipe system as complete machine. The listing of conformity with
the clauses of the Machine Directive as per page 2 and 3 of this declaration and the provided (original installation instructions OM-KM-OST/TST) shall be observed by
the planner / user.
1. The user shall follow the "intended use" as defined in the above instructions (OM-KM-OST/TST) included with the delivery and observe all safety-relevant notes in
these instructions. Disregard of these instructions can release manufacturer from his product liability.
2. The commissioning of the valve (and, where applicable, of the attached actuator) is not permitted until the conformity of the system into which the valve is
installed, with all relevant European Directives, is declared by the person responsible and risk of injury is thus ruled out.
The manufacturer Kugelhahn Müller GmbH has performed and documented all necessary risk analyses. For the carbon steel used, a corrosion allowance is neither
required nor taken into account for the calculation.

Requirement as per Annex I MD 2006/42/EC The following applies to ball valves as per list on page 2 if supplied with actuator:
1.1.2. c) Required protective equipment Same as for pipe section into which the valve is installed.
1.1.3 Wetted parts The materials of the wetted parts are specified in the type data sheet as well as in the order confirmation
issued by Kugelhahn Müller. It is assumed that the user carries out a respective risk analysis concerning the
resistance to the operating fluid.
1.1.5. Handling Satisfied by the notes in the installation and operating instructions
1.2 and 6.2.11 Control system Is the responsibility of the user in accordance with the documentation of the actuator
1.3.7./.8 Risks related to moving parts Requirements are fulfilled when used as intended.
1.5.1. – 1.5.3 .Energy supply Is the responsibility of the user. Also refer to documentation of the actuator.
1.5.5. Operating temperature Warnings against unauthorized exceedance: see installation and operating instructions, sections (intended
use) and (safety notes).
1.5.7 Explosion
When used in potentially explosive atmosphere:
-Protection required for actuator. Must be explicitly agreed on in purchase contract.
1.6.1. Maintenance See operating instructions. Clarify storage of wear parts with manufacturer.
1.7.4. Operating instructions The installation and operating instructions contains notes on the operation of the valve during regular
industrial use as per section 1 of these instructions.
Any additions required to the operating instructions of the (complete machine) in case of special application
are the responsibility of the planner / user.
1. Scope Basis for the analysis is the Product Standard EN1983: (Metallic ball valves) with actuator.
The basis is also formed by the long-standing experience in the use of the valve types mentioned on page 2.
Note: It must be assumed that the user carries out a risk analysis specifically adapted to the operating
conditions as per clauses 4 to 6 of EN 12100 for the pipe section, including the valves installed therein.
Kugelhahn Müller cannot carry out such an analysis for standard valves.
3.20, 6.1 Inherently safe design The valves are designed in accordance with the principle of (inherently safe design).
Analysis as per clauses 4, 5 and 6 Experiences with malfunctions and misuse documented at the manufacturer within the scope of claims
(documentation as per ISO 9001) served as basis.
5.3 Limits of the machine The limits of the (incomplete machine) were defined as per the (intended use) on both the valve and the
actuator.
5.4 Decommissioning, disposal Not the responsibility of the manufacturer Kugelhahn Müller.
6.2.2 Geometrical factors This section does not apply since valve and actuator are enclosed by the movable functional parts during
intended use..
6.3 Technical protective devices If applicable, only required for accessories - see order confirmation.
6.4.5. Operating instructions Since actuated valves operate "automatically" according to the commands from the control system, the
operating instructions describe aspects that are (typical for valves)..
7 Risk analysis The risk analysis has been carried out and documented as per MD Annex VII, B) by manufacturer Kugelhahn
Müller.

an already existing pipe, ensure that the space between
the pipe flanges is sufficient to prevent damage to the
flange connection surfaces and the seals. However, in
order to prevent any additional stresses in the pipe, this
space should not be larger than required.

4.2 TROUBLESHOOTING
When troubleshooting as per the following table, observe section (Safety notes on installation, operation and
maintenance).
Note 1:
Note 2:
If, after disassembly, it is determined that the valve body and/or internal parts are not sufficiently resistant to the fluid, a
more suitable material should be selected in consultation with Kugelhahn Müller.
Note 3:
It is essential to correctly reassemble a ball valve after disassembly for reasons of maintenance/repair and to perform a
subsequent pressure test with water as per section 3.3.
The instructions provided by Kugelhahn-Müller include detailed information for reassembly.
Leakage at flange connection to When a leakage occurs in this area, first retighten flange connection. If this does not eliminate the
pipe leakage, disassemble the valve.
Observe warnings under (Particular dangers) and replace flange seal.
Leakage at the connection of the Use a torque wrench to retighten screws as indicated in the Kugelhahn-Müller assembly
valve body parts instructions. If this does not eliminate the leakage, disassemble the valve.
Observe warnings under (Particular dangers) and replace flange seal.
Observe section 3.4 (Valve disassembly) and replace valve body seal. Request spare parts and
respective instructions from manufacturer.
Leakage at shaft seal (applies only The ball valve type KM-T has an adjustable stuffing box with Belleville spring preload: If leakage
to type KM-T) occurs at the shaft seal, use the following steps to retighten the Belleville spring. Observe warnings
under (Particular dangers):
If actuator and control are OK, disassemble valve. Observe notes under(Particular dangers) and
