Name of the Game : “Alphabet Game” Stage Early Stage 1 - Kindergarten


Explanation
Students will be asked to form a circle. Each child will represent a letter in the alphabet, they then choose something that
starts with that letter and act it out or show it and also make a sound to it. For example, a child with letter D, say Dog
then he/she will walk and bark like a dog. After the acting they can pick other children of their choice to start again.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Help students cooperate their thinking and acting.
• Whole body movement.
• Everyone involved.
• Create fun learning environment

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• MOES1.4 - demonstrates a general awareness of how basic movement skills apply in play & other introductory
movement experiences.
• COES1.1 – plays simple response games
• INES1.3 – work happily with class peers.
• GSES1.8 – shows understanding of the language used in games by responding to verbal and nonverbal directions, eg.
Hop, roll, run, etc.

• Teacher helps with ideas or shows how to act.
• Make sure all students have their turn.

Name of the Game : “Simon Says – Listen & Follow” Stage : Early Stage 1 - Kindergarten
Explanation
A nominated person will stand in front of the class, the rest of the class will stand up. A nominated person will say Simon
says something that is a verb, everyone has to follow. But if that nominated person just said a verb without saying Simon
says at the front of the verb, anyone who does it will be out. Example: The nominated person said: “Simon says Clap”,
everyone will clap. But if he/she just said: “clap”, whoever claps will be out.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Everyone participate and taking turns.
• Lots of body movements.
• Create fun learning environment.
• Teach students learn how to follow instructions.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• GSES1.8 – shows understanding of language used in games by responding to the game rules.
• INES1.3 – relates well to others in play situation.
• ALES1.6 – develops a repertoire of physical activities in which they can participate.

• Make the game faster, so it is more challenge for students to follow.

Name of the Game “Cat, Cat, Mouse” Stage: Stage 1 – Years 1 & 2
Explanation:
Instruct students to sit in a circle, pick a child (called A) to start the game. The child will walk around the circle and tap on
the shoulders of other students and saying Cat-Cat-Mouse. The student that is chosen (called B) by A which is the mouse
will chase A. Child A will run one lap then sit in the B’s spot. B then starts the cycle again.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• It allows children to make their own decision on whom do they want to pick for the game, it could be their friends or a
shy child in class.
• Teach children work corporately as well as turn taking.
• Help students to learn in active way.
• Make learning fun for children.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• COS1.1 - develops positive relationship with peers and other people.
• ALS1.6 – participates in physical activity, recognising that it can be both enjoyable and important for health.
• GYS1.10 – follows a simple sequence that links basic movement patterns.

Equipment and Teaching cues:


• Games can be called different such as Toilet, Toilet, Flush for example, to make more fun.
• Aware of space and danger objects around the play area.

Name of the Game “Rooster Dance” Stage: Stage 1 – Years 2 & 3


Explanation:
Get students to line up in rows with arms length between them. Teacher or leader stand in front, so everyone can see. Put
the song on, the leader will do the actions and everyone will copy. The music start from normal to faster and then very
fast but very slow at the end. Anyone who could not follow the instruction will be out; the rest will be the winners.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Active warm up game because it involved whole body movement.
• Help students to think and act accordingly.
• Trial and error.
• Everyone involved and have fun.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• V3 – enjoys a sense of belonging because most of their friends will be there to participate with them.
• DAS1.7 – performs simple dance sequences incorporating basic movement skills and patterns.
• INS1.3 – displays cooperation in group activities.

Equipment and Teaching cues:


• Big open area or under the school COLA.
• “Chicken Dance” song and CD player.
• Combine classes will make more fun and more teachers to pick out the incorrect dancers.

Name of the Game : “Tap Tap Turn” or “Three Ts” Stage: Stage 2 – Years 3 & 4
Explanation:
Choose one student to stand facing the wall, the rest of the class will stand behind the given line. While the student in the
front tap three times on the wall, the students behind the line should move fast, so when he/she turn his/her head around
everyone should freeze. Whoever still moves will be out and will stand next to the nominated person and help to get the
culprits. The last survivor will win the game.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• This game will help students to concentrate on their movement.
• Very fun and active game for any stage.
• Children can move in various ways as long as they stop at the right time to avoid being caught.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• MOS2.4 – displays a focus on quality of movement in applying movement skills to a variety of familiar and new
situation.
• DMS2.2 –Choose physical activities that are enjoyed by all members of a group.
• COS2.1 – uses a variety of ways to communicate with and within group.

Equipment and Teaching cues:


• Chalk to draw the line.
• Teacher helps to catch the moving ones.

Name of the Game : “Quiet Ball” Stage: Stage 2 – Years 3 & 4


Explanation:
Choose one student to be captain of the game. The captain will make up rules to the game (e.g. hot potato, boy girl, or
clap 2 times before catching the ball), while the other students will throw a little ball around the room. The aim of this
game is the other students have to try to do what the captain says while also catching the ball. Also students have to stay
quiet and who ever fails to do this will be eliminated from the game. The last student standing wins the game.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Help students focus on what they are doing.
• Give student chance to participate in role player.
• Create fun learning environment.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• V1 – enjoys a sense of belonging.
• COS2.1 – uses a variety of ways to communicate with and within groups.
• INS2.3 – participates in the development of class rules, such as following captain rules in this case.
• PSS2.2 –identifies what needs to be done to achieve a goal.
• GSS2.8 – demonstrates fun ways to practising skills.

Equipment and Teaching cues:


• A small handball or a tennis ball.
• Ask student to aware of the windows around the classroom.
• Teacher watches out for inappropriate behaviour in order to avoid injury for other student(S).

Name of the Game : “Three O” (Adapted from Odd One Stage: Stage 3 – Years 5 & 6
Out)
Explanation:
Divided class into groups of five or six people and draw two circles for each group. Students will walk around the circle
and when the teacher blows the whistle everyone will try to run inside the small circle. Teacher will blow the whistle for
the second time whoever could not find the spot inside that small circle will be out. The game will repeat until it run out of
time and the remaining people will be the winners.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• To make students aware of the time limit for the game.
• Help students to take charge of their own moving skills.
• Everyone participate.
• Fun learning.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• V2 – values fair play.
• DMS2.2 – choose physical activities that are enjoyed by all members of a group.
• INS2.3 – participates in the development of class rules.
• ALS2.6 – participates in regular physical activity and discusses progress.

Equipment and Teaching cues:


• School play ground.
• A Whistle.
• Some chalks.

Name of the Game “Open Sesame-Close Sesame” Stage: Stage 3 – Years 5 & 6
Explanation:
Players standing in a circle and hold hands. Teacher will use a whistle to warn students before cashing spells. Teacher will
say “Open Sesame”, all the plays move backward, stretching their bodies and hands to extend the circle. Then the
teacher will say “Close Sesame”, everyone will walk in, still holding hands; Teacher then announced “lower Sesame”,
children will crouch down with hands still joined – “Spin”, the teacher says, all drop hands, spin once and jog on the spot.
The game could take 10-15 minutes to play each time.

Why is this game important for this stage?


• Learn to move in various positions, such as backward, forward, spin, jog.
• Everyone involved.
• Help to stretch their muscles.
• Create fun in learning.

What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?


• IN2.3 – develop friendships and support network with range of people as they hold hands and moving together during
the game.
• MOS2.4 – displays a focus on quality of movement in applying movement skills to a variety of familiar and new
situation.
• ALS2.6 – contributes to physical activity programs, e.g. running in and out of a circle and on the spot.

Equipment and Teaching cues:


• A Whistle.
• The game can be modify by play a song or signs to indicate the actions, e.g. hand in the air for open the circle,
straight arm indicate close the circle and point to the ground for crouch down and twirl in the air mean spin and so on.
