INTRODUCING THE CENTRE FOR PETROLEUM STUDIES, KADUNA

BACKGROUND

The Nigeria College for Petroleum Studies, NCPS now (Centre for Petroleum
Studies Kaduna, CPSK) was established in 1995 by an order of the Federal
Government with the objective of establishing a foremost regional learning and
development Centre for the enhancement of skills and competencies of Oil and
Gas Industry personnel at senior technical and executive management levels.

It was envisaged that the Centre would ultimately become the custodian and driver
of Petroleum Policy and Strategy, with the West African sub-region, and indeed
Africa, becoming the focus of operations, thereby delivering training and
consultancy services to a diverse client base.

At take-off, the College of Energy and Petroleum Studies (CPES) Oxford was
commissioned to partner in enhancing the competence and capabilities of the
Centre’s Human Resources Development function, position it and properly align for
the task ahead.

Pioneering staff was consequently vigorously trained to ensure that the Centre’s
objectives are met.

The Centre presently runs as a virtual college, operating administratively from a

rented complex at 2A Lamido Road Kaduna, delivering customised instructor led
training at the centre’s temporary training complex at the National Teachers
Training Conference Centre, Kaduna or at clients’ chosen locations.

CPSK works with experts in various areas of the oil, gas & energy sector to deliver
effective training and consultancy. We identify learning gaps and develop programs
to bridge them. We also customize courses to meet our client needs.
