NATURES ACTIVITIES OF FPTPK

Faculty of Technology Management Business and Entrepreneurship (FPTPK) University Tun


Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has done numerous activities in order to improve themselves or
to achieve their goal in producing good quality student. The main goal of the faculty is to offer
the programs according to labor market demands in an efficient and effective; enhance the
development and dissemination of knowledge through research and development (R&D),
publication, colloquium organize, conferences and many more. It also purposely to create
intelligent relationship with industry sector and people at both national and international. The
nature activities of faculty include the academic activities and non-academic activities.

Academic Activities

Faculty of Technology Management Business, and Entrepreneurship consist two departments


namely, the Technology Management Department and Construction & Land Property
Management Department.

Programs that faculty offer has been recognized by Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (KPT),
Agensi Kelayakan Malaysia (MQA), and professional institute like Lembaga Penilai,Pentaksir
and Agen Harta Tanah Malaysia (BOVAEA) for Technology of Real State.

The objectives of both departments are:

• To offers programs to meet the needs of both public and private sector

• To be a Centers of excellence, reference, research and consultancy in the field of


technology management needs in the region

• To create an environment conducive to teaching and learning of the latest conveniences


and dynamic academic staff.

Department of Management and Technology is committed to provide and develop a sound


curriculum for the programs that are offered. It aims to produce skilled human capital and
knowledge to face the challenges and technological changes in the global business environment.

Non Academic Activities


FPTPK also organized several non academic activities such as social activities, welfare activities
and many more. Social activities that have been done are including the mobility student,
cooperation or joint venture with other learning institution and company, promotion through a
day with customer and continuous training and development.

Mobility student

One of the activities that have been carried out by the Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship
is mobility student. A number of students have been sent to other foreign universities in order for
the students learn or experience different learning method at those universities. The information
about those universities shall be shared among the students and staffs of the faculty so that they
can further improve the learning process or learning practices in the faculty. Faculty has sent
several student to Indonesia and Hong Kong under this mobility student activities.

Cooperation or joint venture with other learning institution

Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship has signed several agreement or MoU with other
learning institutions. The cooperation between the faculty and other university benefit both
parties. Faculty can exchange learning information with them in order to improve their learning
system thus improving the quality of the student. Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia
(ITB) is the example of university that has strong relationship with the Faculty of Business and
Entrepreneurships, UTHM. With such a relationship, faculty and ITB are able to conduct several
learning activities together that those benefit students from both sides. It is also one of the
methods to promote the faculty as well as UTHM to other country.

Branding is important for the company in order for the people or the potential customer to
recognize their product and enhance their sales. Same goes to the learning institution where the
name of the faculty or university is important for the people to recognize them. Through
cooperation and joint venture with other learning institution; especially oversea institution it will
eventually promote the faculty and university name in that particular country.
Cooperation or joint venture with company

Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship is mainly related with the business. Thus, cooperation
and joint venture with the real company, especially commercial related company will be a great
opportunity to the students as well as the faculty. Student that only depends on the theory
without adequate knowledge on the real practice is not really good. Real practice of the business
may varies or slightly different from the theoretical. Thus, the faculty, especially Faculty of
Business and Entrepreneurship should have a cooperation or joint venture with at least one real
company. Activities involving real company in learning process are really good in order to
produce a student that expert in both theoretical aspect as well as practical aspect. Faculty has a
good relationship with the real company and one of it is Fujjitsu (M) Sdn Bhd where MoU has
been signed by both parties.

Hari bersama pelanggan (A day with customer)

Once in a while faculty will conduct a day with customer in order to promote the faculty. A
booth has been set up and pamphlet or broacher regarding the faculty is been distributed. The
main objective of this activity is to attract potential student, as well as to give information about
the faculty to the public. This is one of the methods to promote the faculty. A good promotion
will lead to better prospect of potential students.

Continuous training and development

In order for the faculty to be further improved, continuous training and development has been
done by the management. For an example, several lecturers and tutors from the Faculty of
Business and Entrepreneurship has been sent to attend Nvivo8 Software Training Workshop
organized by School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPACE) UTM. This workshop
provides an introduction to qualitative methodology, including concepts which include
symbolism and holistic perspective and technique. Methods techniques are including fieldwork
participant observations, informal interviewing triangulation and obstructive measures. The two
courses was success and manage to meets its objectives. The participants had opportunities to
present their PhD proposal and being commented by the facilitator and only participant,
participants also had time to share knowledge and experience with each other throughout the
course. The second part of this course will be held of May and the participant is expected to learn
on how to use NVIVOB software and having the hand on experiences on how to use software.

New technology is always welcomed in the faculty. In order to improve the learning process or
management works, new technology has been adapted by the faculty. Training on the new
technology is done to ensure the staffs of the faculty is been given adequate information or
knowledge about the new technology. For an example, an IT briefing has been done regarding
the usage of My Locker and Total Campus Integrated System (TCIS). My locker is a facility that
has been provided by Information Technology Centre to allow learning process runs effectively.
By these continuous training and development, faculty is able to improve their learning process
as well as the management process those benefits student, staff and the faculty itself.
