Round Rock Medical Center
“We’ve Come a Long Way...So You Don’t Have To!”
Direct Mail • Newspaper Ads • Billboards
Round Rock Medical Center needed to have a new campaign that would highlight new medical
services and its recent expansion. One particular issue they faced was communicating to the
residents of southern Williamson and northern Travis Counties that the Medical Center is just
as advanced as Austin-area healthcare facilities and more convenient to those residents than
driving into Austin. The tag line, “We’ve come a long way...so you don’t have to”, embodies
the message of convenience and technological advancement.
The piece has a very unique design that enables it to stand out from other direct mail pieces,
with a non-standard size and paper cut. This particular piece was targeted to the residents of
Cedar Park. This style and message is carried out in print advertising, Medical Staff newsletters
and used in billboards.

“ We’ve got what it takes... to make a baby happy!”
Maternity Services Billboard • Newspaper Ads • Direct Mail
“Color, color, color”, is what the client asked for. On the heels of the successful campaign,
“We’ve come a long way...so you don’t have to”, RRMC asked to carry that over into their
promotion of maternity services. We took the concepts from the first campaign for the hospital
and created a new campaign with the title “We’ve got what it takes... to make a baby happy!”,
which holds the same cadence.

Trinity Medical Solutions need a strong, professional look for a small medical sales company.
The owner based the name on christian principals with Trinity. To create the trademark, I took
religious symbolism using the three rings inset in the triangle. To implement the letterhead and
business card, I used the line from the logo to direct the eye to the information.
The identity for my own company began with the logo. I created a mark with the “i” between
the tandem “T”. Dotting the “i” is a pair of tandem circles. These elements from the
trademark were then used throughout the collateral. To accent the angled “i” along the left, I
placed a ten degree angled cut on the right side of the business cards. That simple cut
received more attention then any other element—people remembered the card.
North Austin Medical Center requested directional signage for the entrance kiosks. This was a
particularly taxing job, in that the building has five floors; yet, the map had to be easy to read
and understand. Due to the large senior market visiting the facility, colors had to be
distinguishable and text had to be legible. The product was produced on 31x47 inch
Duratrans output.
This law firm desired a logo treatment for their front office that would compliment their
traditional industry with a contemporary, “Out of the Box” look and feel. Brushed aluminum
overlays purple acrylic and stretches around the room to give a very colorful, yet professional
first impression.

WCIT 2006
World Congress on Information Technology
Sponsorship Sales Brochure
The WCIT 2006 is an enormous technology event being hosted by Austin in May 2006. In
order for the group to effectively acquire sponsors, we devised a brochure design to best
convey the information. We needed a standard 8.5 x 11-inch piece, but in couldn’t be just a
boring tri-fold. There needed to be a dynamic and vibrant cover, which subtly says "Austin,
Texas", and also incorporate the letter from the Congress Chair, which is the most important
item. To solve our design conundrum, we developed a tri-fold that unfolds from the center
out, allowing the letter from the Congress Chair to always be visible. The Sponsorship Chart
was placed on the reverse side for convenience.

North Austin Medical Center
Direct Mail—“We Have Big Shoes to Fill”
5.5” x 8.5” folded—8.5” x 16.5” vertical tri-fold unfolded
North Austin Medical Center was competing heavily for maternity market share. Historically,
the promotion for these services had been done through physician offices, using very
traditional feminine colors and tones. The target audience for this mailer was the north Austin
area, comprised of younger, educated couples. Primary colors and large playful graphics were
used to draw attention to the piece—separating it from other mail pieces. The return rate from
the bounce-back card was 2.4%, and it received very positive comments from the physicians
on the medical staff. Similar print advertising complemented this mailer.

Direct Mail—“Dem Bones”
6” x 7.5” folded—6” x 22.5” vertical tri-fold unfolded
Intending to increase a non-traditional referral base for North Austin Medical Center’s
Osteoporosis Services, this mailer had a phenomenal response rate of 2.8%. Osteoporosis is
not an easy service to make eye-catching and informative; yet, through creative use of stock
photography an image of age-defying vibrancy came to life. This mailer also contained a
bounce-back card requesting the recipients to check if they were interested in other
hospital services.

Multi-Residential Brochure
“Get Connected Online”
8.5” x 6” folded
17” x 6” unfolded
The owner of this Austin-based Internet franchise requested a bold and technical look to this
piece. His strategy is to be an exclusive provider of Internet services for multi-resident
dwellings (apartments and condominiums). This piece is targeted for the owners and
managers, with the message aimed at the benefits of his company providing exclusive
services, while a similar piece is targeted for the residents of the communities.
Mercedes Benz of Austin required a classy, upscale look and message to promote their
European Delivery Program. As director and producer of the ad, I worked with a copy editor to
develop the tagline “zero to Munich” and the verbiage. The ad was placed in several respected
Austin magazines and received a lot of praise.

In-Tandem Design & Marketing
Self-Promotional Brochure & Mailer
Creating a brand and look and feel for a client is one thing, but when it is for your own
company, the process takes on a whole new meaning. The chosen imagery depicts a duality
among common objects relating to the subject they represent. To show the energy and
creativity of my company, I turned to typography, using layered text of our services. Another
trademark used on this piece, and much of In-Tandem’s collateral, is the angled “i” from the
logo and the angled cut along the right side.
