INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATE

ƒ Hall ticket must be produced at the time of test without fail. No candidate shall be
allowed to write the test without the hall ticket.

ƒ Mere admission to the test will not confer on the candidate any right for the award of
fellowship.

ƒ Candidates will not be allowed to carry any textual material, printed or written, bits
of paper or any prohibited materials such as calculators, mobile phones, paging
devices or any other object/device that is likely to be of unfair assistance inside the
examination hall.

ƒ No candidate will be allowed to go outside the examination hall till completion of the
first one hour.

ƒ Candidates shall maintain perfect silence and attend to their papers only. Any
conversation or gesticulation or disturbance in the examination hall will be deemed as
misbehaviour. If any candidate is found to be misbehaving or using unfair means or
resorting to impersonation, his/her candidature will be cancelled and he/she will be
liable to be debarred from taking any test of the University.

ƒ The answer sheet of the candidate should be handed over to the hall supervisor along
with the question booklet. If any candidate fails to do so, his/her candidature shall be
cancelled.

General

Ph.D. ( FULL-TIME AND PART-TIME) PROGRAMME FOR THOSE ELIGIBLE FOR APPLY AS
PER Ph.D. REGULATIONS

1. The Regulations governing the Ph.D. degree offered by Sri Ramachandra University is
available in the University website: www.sriramachandra.edu.in Candidates
should go through the same carefully, before applying for the Entrance Test to see that
they are eligible for doing the Ph.D. Degree programme on a Full-time or Part-time
basis. These candidates only after qualifying in the Entrance Test, will become eligible
for applying for provisional registration for the Ph.D. Degree on a Full-time or Part-Time
basis as UGC Regulations, 2009. The procedure prescribed for provisional registration
in the Regulations shall be applicable to these candidates

2. Since the UGC Regulations 2009 have been adopted by the University and in order to
comply with the same, the candidates who have already applied for provisional
registration for the Ph.D. programme on a Full time /Part-time basis, during the last
session, will also have to appear for the Entrance Test and qualify in the same.

3. Candidates who have already been awarded the UGC/CSIR Fellowship or similar
Fellowships conducted by the statutory bodies/Funding Agencies will be exempted .
from appearing for the Entrance Test, for admission to the Ph.D. (Full-time)
programme.

4. However, candidates who have been sponsored/funded by private agencies for full-time
research for Ph.D. degree should take the Entrance Test, to become eligible for
applying for provisional registration for the Ph.D. programme on a full-time basis.

INSTRUCTIONS
(To be retained by the candidate)

) All entries in the application form must be written neatly and legibly by the applicant in his / her own
handwriting using blue / black ink. All the required particulars should be furnished in the application
without any omission. Otherwise the applicant will run the risk of his / her application being rejected.
) Only attested photo copies of the documents called for should be enclosed along with the
application form. The original documents should be submitted to the University at the time of
interview.
) The filled in application form should be submitted along with a demand draft for Rs.500/- (Rupees
five hundred only) drawn in favour of “Sri Ramachandra University, Porur, Chennai–116”
payable at Chennai to The Pro-Chancellor, Research, Sri Ramachandra University, Porur,
Chennai–600116.
) Any overwriting or correction in the certificates of the applicant should have been duly attested by
the authorities concerned.
) Service candidates should forward their applications through the Directorates concerned.
Applications of service candidates submitted directly to the University will not be taken up for
consideration.
) No TA/DA paid by University for attending the written test/interview.
I. SRI RAMACHANDRA UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS FOR Ph.D.
The University offers a total No. of 8 Fellowships each carrying a sum of Rs.6,000/- p.m. with a
contingency grant Rs.25,000/ p.a. for a period of 3 years for candidates undertaking research on full
time basis for the Ph.D. programme of the University in the following disciplines:-
Medicine and Surgery—all branches and Basic Medical Sciences/ Dentistry/ Pharmacy/ Nursing/
Human Genetics/ Biomedical Sciences/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Medicinal Chemistry/
Physiotherapy/ Management/ Allied Health Sciences/ Audilogy and Speech-Language Pathology/
Clinical Nutrition/ Clinical Psychology.
The fellowships will be governed by the terms and conditions prescribed and are tenable only at Sri
Ramachandra University.

Objective:
These fellowships are designed to motivate talented and meritorious medical and allied sciences
postgraduates to take up Ph.D. research on a full-time basis at the constituent colleges of Sri
Ramachandra University.

General:
The fellowships will be advertised in newspapers and also on the University website. He/she shall
apply for the fellowship in the prescribed application to the Pro-Chancellor (Research). The
applicants will be required to appear for a written test and a personal interview. Depending on the
number of candidates a short-list may be prepared before calling the candidates for interview.
Selection shall be based solely on merit and on all-India basis. The marks/grades scored at the
postgraduate examination may also be taken into account for the selection process.

A selection committee consisting of the members of the Ph.D. Admission/Scrutiny Committee and
such other experts as may be co-opted will be constituted for the selection of students for the award
of the fellowships.

In all cases, the decision of the Chancellor shall be final.

Terms and conditions:
1. The fellowships shall be called “Sri Ramachandra University Chancellor Research Fellowships
for Ph.D. students.
2. These shall be tenable at the constituent colleges of the University only.
3. Each constituent college will be assigned one Fellowship only per academic year. The total
number of fellowships shall be eight.
4. The maximum duration of the fellowships granted to Ph.D.scholars shall be three years only.
5. 7. He/she should register for the Ph.D. degree programme of Sri Ramachandra University. The
fellow shall comply with all other requirements as stipulated in the Ph.D. Regulations of Sri
Ramachandra University for the Ph.D. programme.
6. The fellowship shall be of the value of Rs.6,000/- (Rupees six thousand only) per month and
carry a contingency of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees twenty-five thousand only) per annum. The
contingency paid to the candidate for pursuance of research can be used for the purchase of
reagents, contingencies/preparation of thesis or any other activity connected with the research
project following institutional procedures through the office of Pro-Chancellor (Research).The
contingency shall be tilized only for items approved by the Pro-Chancellor (Research). The
account for the contingency shall be submitted annually with supporting original bills / vouchers
to the Finance and Accounts Section, before claiming the next installment of contingency
through the Pro-Chancellor (Research) Office
7. The fellow shall submit a report of work done and progress bi-annually through his/her research
guide/co-guide and Head of the Department to the Pro-Chancellor (Research). The Research
Advisory Committee with the guide as the convenor shall review the fellow’s research progress
bi-annually and the fellow shall submit the annual report along with recommendation or
otherwise for continuation of the fellowship to the Pro-Chancellor (Research) for extension of the
fellowship grant every year.
8. The fellowship can be terminated at any time on a month’s notice if the progress of work is not
satisfactory or on receipt of an adverse report from the Guide. The fellowship can be terminated
forthwith if the particulars given in the application form for Fellowship are found to be incorrect
or false.
9. The University would extend financial support for three years only on condition that the Fellow
should provide the following documents to the University:-
(a) An undertaking to the effect that the contingency grant received from the University will be
used strictly for the purpose for which it has been released;
(b) In the event of leaving the fellowship the whole amount will be remitted to the University with
suitable justification. The Fellow is required to execute a bond for Rs.50,000/- (Rupees Fifty
thousand only) on Rs.10/- non-judicial stamp paper. The original certificates will be retained
and it will not be returned to the awardee before the completion of the course, unless he/she
deposits a sum of Rs.50,000/- [Format to be obtained from the Pro-Chancellor (Research)
Office]
(c) A copy of the thesis protocol submitted to the University as part of the research programme
(plus a CD copy of the same);
(d) A short summary of the thesis (2-5) pages prepared by him/her outlining the objectives,
methodology, findings and discussion.
10. The preparation and submission of thesis will be the responsibility of the fellow and his/her
guide. The Fellow should publish a minimum of TWO papers/publications in
national/international journals. The fellow will acknowledge the assistance provided by the
Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra University in the publications emerging out of his research work
for the Ph.D. degree and in the Ph.D. thesis submitted to the University.
