(Copies of Issue 1 are still available near the Catholic Papers.) Over the next 4 weeks, we will look at the Introductory Rites of the Mass, starting this week with how we gather and the purpose of the Entrance Hymn or Antiphon. It is good for us to consider how we prepare for Mass, if at all. Do we arrive in plenty of time to focus our minds on what we are about to do? Am I ‘just in time’ or often rushing in after Mass has begun and so still pre-occupied with all that has gone on beforehand? Do I spend time quietly in prayer or reading the scriptures or join in praying the Rosary before Mass? Or am I distracted, or do I distract others by chatting or catching up on news before rather than after Mass? What, or who, are the concerns we bring to the Lord today? Please think carefully about how you prepare for Mass so that we may have a more prayerful atmosphere in church beforehand. Confirmation : Bishop Malone will be with us on Wednesday 15th June at 7.30pm to confirm pupils in Years 8 and 9. There will be a meeting for candidates and their parents in the Parish Centre immediately after Mass on Sunday. School-Leavers : Year 11 students at St Edmund Arrowsmith have their leavers Mass at St Oswald’s on Wednesday of this week at 2pm. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare for their exams. Year 6 pupils at Our Lady’s School also have their SATS this week, so we wish them all well. Pastoral Area Meetings :There are 3 meetings this week for those involved in planning the way forward for the Church in our area : - on Tuesday, a meeting of Parish Reps from the Ashton parishes; on Wednesday, a meeting of the Deanery clergy; on Thursday, a meeting of Parish reps across the Pastoral area.
