Spring—A fun time for Reading & Fresh Food

Welcome to Spring! We hope you have enjoyed the beginning of this beautiful season.
The warmer weather also brings fresh produce and the opening of our local farmer’s
markets. At these markets, you can select the finest of local, fresh produce. For in-
formation on when a market is open near your work or home, please visit:
http://www.california-grown.com/Market-times.html
Learning about recipes and foods is a creative way to work on literacy development
between Tutors & Adult Learners. For the next Monday Night Meeting, please ask
your adult learner to share his or her favorite fruit or vegetable and write a sentence
about it to share with the group. If Tutors and Learners feel comfortable you may
share a recipe or story with the group as well!
Staff from Literacy Services will bring a selection of fruits and vegetables from the
market to share at MNM. Please confirm your attendance by May 19th so we can
have enough time to shop for delicious treats.
To help your adult learner take advantage of their improving reading skills, you may
want to suggest a fun cook book that they can try out at home. They can use their
