8 SiteScope Backup and Recovery References

Site Scope’s design allows for an easy restore in case of a catastrophic server failure. To be
able to do it the necessary files should be backed up frequently. All required files for a
successful recovery are maintained in the SiteScope directory.
1. To export the configuration, make a copy of the /groups directory.
2. For any addition or changes to the template files (in /templates.mail, /templates. page,
etc.), those directories need to be copied as well
3. To keep historical data copy of the /logs directory
4. Any generated reports are in the /htdocs directory.
5. Any script alerts or script monitors are maintained in the /scripts directory. Any script
monitors with the "USE COMMAND" configuration are kept in the /scripts. Remote
directory.

To recover from a server or drive failure the process is fairly simple: Install a new instance of
SiteScope on the new server or rebuild OS and then
1. Stop the SiteScope service
2. Copy the files from your backup copy of the /groups directory in the /groups directory of
the new SiteScope
3. If you have any custom templates, copy them into the appropriate places in the new
SiteScope
4. If you backed up your /logs directory, copy the files into the new /logs directory
5. If you backed up your /htdocs directory, copy the files into the new /htdocs directory
6. If you are on Windows OS and your old SiteScope service needed to login as a given user
(e.g., because of remote monitoring), go to the Services Control Panel and change the
SiteScope service to run as the proper user
7. Start the SiteScope service.
SiteScope will start up with your current monitors configured.

9 Troubleshooting
