A DIGITAL FILM AND EMERGENT MEDIA CONFERENCE FOR TEACHERS & STAGE 6 STUDENTS

In conjunction with the 2011 Robin Anderson


Film Awards Festival, a conference has been
prepared to provide teachers and senior
students with in-depth information about
the practice and teaching of
cinematography and videography.

This conference is ideal for teachers and


students who wish to extend their
knowledge in current digital media practice.

‘Taming the Youtuber’ conference aims to


provide you with an understanding of the
specific language and theories that relate the
diverse media of digital filmmaking.

The conference will include viewing a number


of film resources and hearing first hand
accounts from key professionals who outline
what they do and the impact of their practice.

This day will help enrich teachers’ knowledge


of filmmaking and assist senior students in their
approaches to filmmaking. ‘Taming the
Youtuber’ will promote a more critical eye when
studying film and video as well as supply useful
programs for teaching digital film in the
classroom and handy hints and processes for
students.

Bill Russo
Bill is a master editor and a recognised
educator, who will explain the dynamics of
effective editing. Highlighting that editing is
an art form that evolves over time and

Key Speakers from Industry

Felicity Coonon

Felicity Coonon is currently the Art Director in Marketing and Communications as well as Senior
Designer in Production at Animal Logic. Felicity will share with you her experiences at Animal
Logic and account for the growing influence digital media has had on the film industry.

VFX to hand-painted murals around her home, and work with her at every opportunity. In short, I

Maya Newell

As a student filmmaker Maya constantly push herself managing to gain distribution rights for the
documentary Richard whilst she was a student. This year she took out the 2011 F4 Award for
Outstanding New Documentary Talent for her documentary Two. In this presentation she will
outline her experiences as a student filmmaker.

“The thing that I really love most about filmmaking is gaining access to worlds that we would
never be able to come into contact with otherwise… most of us live in these little cubes of our life,
and documentary allows me to step into other people’s.” - Maya Newell

Bill Russo

Bill Russo was the head of editing at AFTRS for 9 years , two years ago Bill left the position to
work on his own projects. He is recognised as a industry expert and has work on many dramas and
documentaries. Bill will provide a deeper insight to the art of editing and enlighten those attending
the conference to the subtleties and expressive potentials of this craft. Bill will explain the practice
of film editing, the development of a sequential narrative and the value of the ‘critical eye’ during
the editing process.
