The 7th International Biennial of Textile Miniatures

Vanish/Survive (Vilnius 2011)

September 21st – October 8th

The aim of international textile miniature biennial "Vanish/Survive" is to invite

artists’ from various countries into the join venue, which continues to tackle the
urgent problem of human existence. The artists are encouraged to go deep into
the sense of being and creation (the aim, ability to survival), reflection on the
place and role of human in the world.

Problems related to vanishing and ability to survive are intended to analyze

with respect to several aspects:
- life and death, being and the other world, lucidity and obscurity;
- ecology and the problem of human responsibility in the world being torn by
social, political, religious contradictions;
- future of textile, its ability to survive and transmute at the sight of vanishing
boundaries of types and genres;
- destiny of national and spiritual values within the global world facing
breakage and crises.
Artists will try to answer the questions about what is waiting for us tomorrow,
what we found, what is being left after us? Are we able to face nonentity, will
we imprint footprints in our time?

Both traditional or innovative works of art are expected, as well as

interdisciplinary projects, combining traditional forms with innovative at the
same time activating the search for the new means of plasticity.

The time of the exhibition is being coordinated with the events of the eighth
international Kaunas Biennial TEXTILE'11 (22 09 2011 - 04 12), when up to 200
representatives from European textile network (ETN) will assemble in Kaunas.
They will organize the sixteenth ETN conference.

We are inviting all the artists working in various textile art areas to
participate.
Each artist may submit up to 3 works not exceeding 20x20x20 cm.
The technique of the work is not limited.
For the selection, send until 1st July 2011:
One colour picture for each proposed work and a digital version of the pictures
in CD (resolution 300 dpi) for the catalogue;
An entry form of the participant;
A short biography of the artistic achievements.

The exposition will be held in Arka Art Gallery on September 21st – October 8th
, 2011.
Organizers will publish catalogue featuring all the works exhibited.
Every participant of the exhibition will receive a copy of the catalogue.
