Materiality & Technology in Architectural Design


Final Project: Pavilion Prototype – Design of a temporary exhibition space

Deliverables for Final Jury, Friday, November 26th 2010, 9 am – 7pm:

The presentation should include well crafted drawings, diagrams and models that present and discuss the programmatic relationships,
organizational principles, structural logics, tectonic relationships, site relationships, visual effects, spatial qualities, aesthetic qualities
and any other relevant information to understand the project.

Every student will have a space with the following dimensions: Width: 240 cm Height: 200 cm.
Students are encouraged to carefully choose their mode of presentation and should consider which mode works best for their
conceptual ideas and design.

Required Drawings:

 Site Plan: (1:500) - Indicating the location, adjacencies, access strategy and orientation of the temporary pavilion.
 Plans: (1:50) - Demonstrating programmatic distribution, flow of movement and exhibition concept.
 Elevations: (1:50) - Indicating envelope principles.
 Sections: (1:50) - Indicating organizational, structural and spatial logics of the project.
 Details - Demonstrating tectonic relationships.
 Concept Diagrams: - Demonstrating organizational strategies, structural concepts and description of materials.
 3D Drawings: - Demonstrating visual, atmospheric effects, spatial qualities, exterior and interior appearance,
Night and day perception.
(Perspective Renderings, Collages, Model photographs)

Required Models/ Prototypes:

 Final Models (Sectional Model): (1:50/ 1:25)


- Demonstrating envelope organization, structural and tectonic relationships, spatial qualities and
Material assembly organization.
 Study Models - Demonstrating the evolution of the design process
 Prototypes from exercise 2a & 2b

Required Text:

The final presentation should include a 200 word text describing your concept of the pavilion, the exhibition concept, use of material,
design intent and logics of construction.

Portfolio and CD submission, December 17th 2010:

Please prepare a portfolio that includes and presents adequately the work of the entire semester in A4 landscape format.
In addition each student has to prepare a CD that includes all work. Further information regarding the formatting will follow.
