GOD AND THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush are teeing of on the 14 the hole of the the

multidimensional Mahoney Golf course in Lincoln, Nebraska. “I believe you have

the honor of teeing off first, GW,” said BC. “Thanks BC, I appreciate it,” said

GW. GW proceeded to hit a nice fairway shot ten yards short of the green. “Nice

shot, GW,” said BC. “Thanks,” said GW. BC then hit a good fairway shot 15

yards short of the green. They both chipped on.

As GW lined up his putt, BC asked, “Say, GW, what do you think of this

pledge of allegiance case out in California?” “Well, BC, I don’t have a problem with

saying the word God in a public school. I just don’t see the problem.” replied GW.

“What about the Constitution and the separation of Church and State?” asked BC.

 “Well, BC,” said GW, “the Constitution refers to the signing date of the

Declaration of Independence, and, the Declaration of Independence specifically

says that it is self evident that God the Creator created all persons with certain

inalienable rights, including Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. So, in my

opinion since the Declaration of Independence refers to God, and, since Constitution

refers to the Declaration, then the Constitution refers to God by reference.” “So,

you’re saying that if the Constitution refers to God by reference then it’s o.k. to put

God in the pledge of allegiance and have it recited in public schools.” Said BC.

“That’s the idea,” said GW. “That’s interesting. Your putt Mr. President.” Said

BC. And the game continues.
