IMC Networks Enhances Functionality for IE-MultiWay, Gigabit Ethernet

Media Converter

• Provides Customers with FREE Software Upgrades; including

802.3ah OAM and 802.1ag OAM CFM

Foothill Ranch, CA, May 03, 2011--IMC Networks, a leading manufacturer of low cost
optical access and media conversion solutions for LAN, MAN and FTTx applications,
today announced new feature enhancements to its IE-MultiWay, including support for
point-to-point and end-to-end OAM (802.3ah and 802.1ag). The IE-MultiWay product
is an SNMP managed Gigabit Ethernet multi-function network device that performs
several tasks to meet customer CPE/fiber operations. The product is designed with a
simple upgrade path that is available through the company’s free software download
site. In 1993 IMC Networks implemented its Free Software Upgrade Policy to provide
customers with the latest feature enhancements. This policy was established to
provide a cost-effective growth path for its products.

“The new added software features to the IE-MultiWay provide greater manageability,
thus giving businesses multiple options for configuring their networks without the high
price tag. The IMC Networks legacy policy of providing free downloadable software
upgrades turns this product from a device with basic management features into a
device with a complete management set”, said David Zaveski, Senior Product Sales
Engineer at IMC Networks.

IE-MultiWay product enhancements include IEEE 802.3ah OAM and 802.1ag CFM
support for OAM functionality, in addition to:

• Remote Management via SNMP

• Remote Management via Telnet
• Host-Remote IP-less communications
• VLAN Tagging (802.1Q and 802.1ad)
• User definable EtherType 88A8 Tagging
• DDMI on the fiber SFP
• Expanded Command Line Interface (CLI)
• Forced Speed/Duplex on the TX ports

The compact module is a standalone device that offers two 100 or 1000 speed SFP
ports and two 10/100/1000 Mbps copper twisted pair ports that can serve as a
managed fiber termination, fiber repeater, mode converter, multi-port switch, and as
dual independent media converters.
The IE-MultiWay also features a wide range of powering options. An extended
temperature range of -40º C to +85º C is ideal for Industrial Ethernet installations
using the 5 to 24 Volt DC barrel connector and a -48 Volt DC terminal for Telco
applications. Designed for Industrial Ethernet installations, the optional IE-Power/5V
AC to DC DIN rail power supply is ideal for space restricted applications in industrial,
automation and military environments including control cabinets and computer rooms.
An optional cable is available for purchase that permits the unit to run on the power
provided by the two USB ports.
