Course Introduction and Description:

Through lecture, hands-on, and interactive activities, this course is designed to introduce
students to the fundamental skills required for business success. The emphasis in this course is
on the application of material learned and the development of practical business skills that will
assist them in getting the most out of their subsequent business courses. To provide an
environment conducive to practicing their skills, the course will utilize a computer simulation
model where competing teams run a $40 million electronic companies. This simulation
provides a unique (and risk free) learning opportunity where round by round the student and
their teammates will see the impact of their decisions have on a company's position and
profitability.

Students will gain further experience and improve their skills with data analysis;
communications including written, verbal, non-verbal, and presentations; resume writing, cover
letters and interviewing skills; and time management, planning and goal setting. Assignments
have been structured around the students simulation companies to provide a context for each
exercise and build to a final presentation to their Board of Directors at the conclusion.
