This Article deals with poems by R. Kipling which have appeared in Russian translation at the
end of the XIX century. O.N. Chyumina’s translational concept differs from the original one, she was
one of the first to turn to the work of the famous English writer, and we can oversee her desire to be
adjusted to the tastes of the Russian reader. Translation of the poem «Cells» by E.M. Stydenskaya is
the first attempt to translate «Barrack-room ballads» by R.Kipling.
The key words: Rudyard Kipling, poetic translation, English-Russian literary ties, «The Song
of the Dead», «The Last Rhyme of True Thomas», «Cells», amplification, English accentual-syllabic,
metrical aura.
