Role: Systems Engineer

• AIX Logical Volume Manager – creating volume groups, logical volumes, file systems,
etc., resizing file systems, working with mount points such as changing mount point
for file system.

• Migrating logical volumes, mirroring vgs and lvs, copying logical volumes, export and
importing volume groups

• Creating User, Group home directories and password administering.

• Performance monitoring using vmstat, iostat, sar, topas, netstat and nmon and
analyzing these reports to figure out any performance issues.

• Recovering root password, replacing failed hard disks, making disks high available by
mirroring volume groups, logical volumes etc.,

• Attending daily issues such as file system management, housekeeping, checking disk
usages etc.,

• Analyzing log files, checking error report and taking pro-active steps.

• Installation and new server build for AIX Operating System

• ML, TL updating and APAR, fix installation, and patch update on AIX and devices on
requirements basis and on customer specifications

• Installing Quick Fixes such as APAR’s PTF’s as when required.

• Using alternate disk installation method when upgrading or installing TL or ML on AIX

• Configuring redundant logical volumes, file systems to make sure high availability.

• Fixing booting related issues, working with boot list in SMS modes, bosboot to fix
booting problems.

• Change the kernel level.

• Scheduling jobs using crontab – editing, removing and checking cron logs.

• Creating Volume Group, Logical volumes and file systems in both standalone and HA
environment. Checking the file systems and increase/decrease the file system if
required.

• Fixing mount issues, checking filesystem integrity, running fsck in maintenance

mode on rootvg logical volumes if any corrupted lv’s in rootvg.

• working with NFS mounts and related issues.

• Taking regular system backup using mksysb and volume group backup using savevg
utilities.

• Creating/removing paging space, checking paging space usage and

increase/decrease if required.

• Problem diagnose using system dump – system dump configuration, generation,

estimating dump sizes, configuring primary and secondary dump devices etc.,
Coordinating with IBM engineer to analyze this dump vmcore files.

• HACMP - Monitoring servers, Starting and Stopping Cluster Services, moving resource
groups across the nodes, increasing filesystem in cluster filesystem, synchronizing
cluster resources and cluster verification.

• HACMP Cluster configuration, plan, design HACMP cluster nodes, Network

configuration, configuring disk heart beats, non ip heart beats, Performing failover
testing, verification, synchronization.

• Perform health checks on HACMP nodes, running cluster statistics to find cluster
stability, finding resource group status etc.
 • Managing High Available Cluster nodes (HACMP) – Cluster Starting, Stopping, Moving
resources from one node to another, Trouble shooting and checking up logs etc.,

• Working with HMC, creating, configuring LPAR, performing DLPAR operations on

dlpar nodes, installing OS on lpars.

• Dynamically add, remove and move resources in the LPARs.

• Dedicated and shared processors, logical processor, processing unit, and allocation
of processing power from the shared processor pool etc.,

• VIO Server operations, creating virtual adapters and configuring ethernet or LUNs .

• Working on HMC, administering, configuration of VIO, LPAR, DLPAR nodes, resource

allocation, moving resources as when required dynamically. Mapping vio devices to
partitions.

• Mapping adapters and allocation LUNs to LPARs.
