3 Calculator Information
The annual insolation for Victoria Australia is 4.75 kWh/m^2 when the PV modules are installed on a
30 degree angle and 4.11 kWh/m^2 when installed horizontally. Using the calculator we can
determine the required AC power output of the system according to the annual required power of
13000kWh per year to supply the power for the Car park Lighting System. We must also consider
Standard Test Conditions and use the supplied manufacturer’s data per STC.
We can calculate the required parameters to design and size the solar system using the calculator.
The inverter (Aurora PVI-10.0-OUTD-AU) has a rated maximum voltage of 850 volts and maximum
operating power of 10kW. The VOC of our selected PV Panel (Kyocera KD185GH-2PU) is 29.5 volts
and the total VOC depends on the type of installation to be done. The total VOC for a 30 degree angle
installation is 1196 volts and 1382 volts horizontally. We need 41 solar modules when performing 30
degree tilt angle installation and 47 solar modules when installing the solar modules horizontally. The
solar panels should be divided into two arrays since we have two inputs on the Inverter and to satisfy
the maximum operating VOC 850 volts of the Inverter.
Table 1.1 evidently displays the calculative results for Grid Connected System
Sizing for 13000kWh/yr of electricity that the car park uses. We have also
determined the number of required PV modules which heavily depends on the
annual Insolation kWh/m^2 and type of installation method or tilt. Utilizing the calculator allows us
to create decisions required on purchasing equipments as whether there is a need for a solar tracking
system or fixed array of PV modules.
