- Project leader for multi-million dollar Federal project.
- Successful completion of project carried out on time and within budget with po
tential savings from results estimated at $10-15 billion annually.
- Focus of project was to devise a new method to use modified asphalt in pavemen
ts.
- Devised a new test method and data analysis tool which has been adopted as an
ASTM standard.
- Planned and managed the entire project. Coordinated efforts with three federal
organizations connected with the project.
- Responsible for data gathering and analysis and generating monthly, quarterly
and annual reports.
- Presented progress and research plans semi-annually to the Federal task force
assigned to the project.
- Used the data generated to formulate a new approach of research and achieved s
uccessful results in the field.
- Extensive preliminary field tests by various state transportation departments
have corroborated research results.
- Recommendations have led to considerable systems improvement.
Foundry Sand Project (January 1998 August 1998)
- Successfully completed research to evaluate use of foundry sand in asphalt pav
ements.
- Initiated project by convincing Wisconsin foundries and contractors to potenti
al savings.
- Results have been successfully implemented in the field for over 8 years with
significant savings.
- Potential for extensive positive environmental effects since foundry sand once
being dumped in landfills is now being utilized for construction.
