EXPERIENCE
BOEING, WICHITA, KANSAS
Software Systems Engineer, 2005 a" 2010
*
Participated in the system integration efforts for the KC-767
Tanker.
*
Processed/reviewed Problem Reports (PRs), worked with suppliers to
determine solutions, and specified additional testing to determine
the scope and effect of problems.
*
Revised system requirements (using ClearCase and ClearQuest), and
interface specifications (for EIA-422, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553B) to
implement changes.
*
Analyzed test results from the System Integration Lab (SIL) and the
aircraft in order to verify that changes were properly implemented.
Developed Perl scripts and other tools (using C and C++) to process
and analyze test results.
*
Wrote detailed test plans and procedures to fully verify the
software compliance as specified by RTCA/DO-178B. Fully analyzed the
test results and wrote test reports.
*
BOEING, WICHITA, KANSAS
*
Software Design Engineer, 2000 - 2005
*
Designed the software interface between the Aerial Refueling Control
System (ARCS) on the Air Refueling Control Computer (ARCC) and the
Distributed Control System (DCS) for the Global Tanker Transport
Aircraft (GTTA). Also designed the inter-partition interface between
the ARCS and the Boom Control System (BCS). The ARCS software is
responsible for pumps, valves, drogues, and executive functions while
the BCS is responsible for controlling the Boom. The software was
developed using Zbra, a Boeing proprietary sub-set of Ada designed to
produce code that is highly verifiable under RTCA/DO-178B.
*
Designed and developed Stores Management Overlay (SMO) software for
the Avionics Midlife Improvement (AMI) program for the B-52H. These
included real time calculations to compute the Launch Acceptability
Region (LAR) for JASSM, JDAM, JSOW, and WCMD SMOs. The target
environment was specifically designed to control all aspects of
flight management for the B-52H and was based upon dual processor
architecture (one active and one as a pre-loaded hot spare). Object
Oriented Design (OOD) and Object Oriented Programming (OOP)
conventions were used to create highly modular code with a high
degree of reusability. The software was developed using the Adamulti
development environment supported by Rational Clearcase and
ClearQuest for configuration management, problem reports, and
development records.
CUMMINS ENGINE COMPANY, COLUMBUS, IN
Software Engineer, 1999 - 2000
*
Developed software to control Cummins Heavy Duty Diesels (HDD) and
Mid-Range Diesels (MRD) which both us the Motarola MPC500 family of
Power PC Microcontrollers. Work was done on a Sun Ultra-5 workstation
using standard Unix tools (xemacs, Perl, Grep, etc.) and Rational
Clearcase for configuration management, problem reports, and
development records.
ELDEC, LYNNWOOD, WA
Software Engineer, 1998 - 1999
*
Developed software to provide real-time embedded control for the
Eldec Flight Controls Power Supply Assembly (FC PSA) for the Boeing
777 aircraft. The system provides triple redundant power to the
aircraft flight controls when main power is lost. Duties include the
identification of requirement changes, modifying the design,
implementing the changes, and testing to insure compliance to
functional requirements. Languages include Ada, and assembly.
Continuus has been used for configuration management, problem
reports, and "Unit Development Folders".
FLIGHT DYNAMICS, PORTLAND, OR
Software Engineer, 1997 - 1998
*
Developed software to provide real-time embedded software to control
the Flight Dynamics Heads-Up Guidance System (HGS) for the Falcon
900EX aircraft. The Flight Dynamics HGS is a heads-up display for
commercial aircraft that provides the pilot with guidance and status
information. The system allows the safe operation of the aircraft
during inclement weather conditions including heavy rain, fog, and
wind shear. Duties include the implementation and verification of
symbology, built-in-test (BIT), and status requirements. Languages
include C, PLM, and assembly.
BOEING, WICHITA, KANSAS
Software Engineer, 1995 - 1997
*
Designed and developed software to do ranging calculations for the
Advanced Weapons Integration Program (AWIP) Stores Management Overlay
(SMO) for the B-52H. These calculations compute in real time the
Launch Acceptability Region (LAR) for the next generation of advanced
weapons.
*
Designed, developed, and implemented tests to verify software
modules written in Ada for the Boeing 777 aircraft. These tests
validated the software in accordance with FAA regulations and
resulted in the identification of errors, "dead" code, and potential
improvements.
ALLIEDSIGNAL, TUCSON, ARIZONA
Software Engineer, 1994 - 1995
*
Implemented Software Problem Change Requests (SPCRs) for the F-22A
Auxiliary Power Generation Subsystem (APGS) using Teamwork and the
Tartan Ada compiler. Duties included reviewing changes to the
Software Requirements Specification (SRS), the Software Design
Document (SDD), and implementing the changes in Ada by modifying
existing software and creating new routines.
*
Designed, developed, and implemented tests to verify software
modules written in Ada for the C130J Hercules II Nacelle Interface
Unit (NIU). These tests validated the software in accordance with FAA
regulations and resulted in the identification of errors, "dead" code,
and potential improvements.
BOEING, EVERETT, WASHINGTON
Software Engineer, 1994 - 1994
*
Designed, developed, and implemented tests to verify software
modules written in Ada for the Boeing 777 aircraft High Lift System
(Flaps And Slats of the wing assembly). The tests were developed for
the Common GEneric Test System (CGETS) environment and were run using
the MRI-68030-SIM for the Motorola 668030 Microprocessor, the
MRI-68332-SIM for the Motorola MC68332 Microprocessor, and the
ICC-80960-SIM for the Intel 80960 Microprocessor. These tests
validated the software in accordance with FAA regulations and
resulted in the identification of errors, "dead" code, and potential
improvements.
TEXAS INSTRUMENTS, DALLAS, TEXAS
Software Design Engineer, 1984 - 1993
*
Translated FORTRAN graphics support and system interface routines
into "C" and developed support functions (in "C") for use on several
diverse systems including UNIX (Convex, Sun, Silicon Graphics),
Windows, and VAX/VMS. Wrote test drivers to verify "C", C++, FORTRAN,
and Ada functional interfaces. Improvements resulted in cost savings
by reducing development time and allowing users access to third-party
analysis tools.
*
Assumed responsibility of a software engineering team that was
behind schedule and led the effort in design, development,
integration, and testing of software (Pascal on HP 9000 system using
HP-UX) to control a hardware test environment. Wrote detailed
software documentation (DOD-STD-2167) and worked directly with
customers to obtain their approval. Brought development program back
on schedule, improved relationship with customer. Instrumental in
program winning contract continuation over competition.
*
Researched Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) for use in next
generation image processing enabling users to work with standard
format and software. Project implemented using C++ and resulted in
reduced development costs time saved.
*
Participated in development of simulated environment to run software
acceptance tests independently of target (on networked VAX system).
Results allowed embedded software to be tested prior to hardware
integration, saving months on the development cycle.
*
Developed real-time embedded control modules (using "C"), including
Built-In-Test (BIT), for head-steered FLIR for F-16. Developed
emulation of F-16 command/communications interface (1553B) using
Pascal.
