LESSON PLAN (CHEMISTRY - FORM 4)

SCHOOL : Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 24, Shah Alam

DATE : 5th September 2010

TIME : 1100 a.m. – 1140 a.m.

CLASS : 4 Aktif

SUBJECT : Chemistry - Form 4

CLASS ABILITY : Moderate

TOPIC : Manufactured Substances in Industry

SUBTOPIC : Synthetic Polymers

MAIN CONCEPT : There are many uses of natural polymers and synthetic polymers
to human being and we have to reuse and recycle synthetic
polymers as much as possible to minimize environmental
pollution.

KEY WORDS : natural polymer, synthetic polymer, monomer, biodegradable,

non- biodegradable

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

A student should be able to:

1. state the meaning of polymers,
2. differentiate between naturally occurring polymers and synthetic polymers and
their uses,
3. identify the monomers in the synthetic polymers,
4. justify uses of synthetic polymers in daily life.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:

A student is able to:

1. state the meaning of polymers,
2. differentiate between naturally occurring polymers and synthetic polymers and
their uses,
3. identify the monomers in the synthetic polymers,
4. justify uses of synthetic polymers in daily life.

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE:

Students already familiar with several uses of naturally occurring polymers and synthetic
polymers in their daily life like wool, silk, natural rubber, plastic bags, plastic containers,
shopping bags and water pipes.

TEACHER’S ROLE:

1. Prepares the teaching and learning needs.

2. Prepare the class activity.

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS:

1. Lecture
2. Discussion

TEACHING AIDS / TECHNOLOGY:

1. PowerPoint presentation
2. Movie Maker presentation
3. Realia

NOBLE VALUES:

1. To develop critical thinking through identifying and differentiating naturally

occurring polymers and synthetic polymers
2. To develop confidence while answering and discussing with teacher and friends.
3. To develop the sense of care and love to their environment.

SCIENTIFIC SKILLS:
1. Communicating
2. Explaining facts
3. Analytical thinking

THINKING SKILLS:

1. Analyzing facts
2. Generating ideas
