Professional Experience
Advanced Relationship Training (Private Practice) 2008-Present
Psychotherapist, Principal
Helping people with significant psychological, emotional and relational issues l
earn to do life differently and to get their life back.
KLA-Tencor, Inc. (Therma-wave acquired May 2007) 2000 TO 2008
Principal Engineer, Optical Systems, Senior Manager, Sr. Manufacturing Engineer
Improved coatings on optical elements and improved DUV performance by over 100 t
imes (not 100%) to rescue the spectroscopic ellipsometer tool was failing to mee
t customer requirements and capture significant market share from the competitio
n.
Managed supply side optics for new ellipsometer platforms
Reviewed and guided new platform development
Managed outsourcing strategy and implementation for optical elements and assemb
lies
Engineering Manager (WIN)
Turned around a manufacturing engineering department responsible for supporting
a group of product lines that yielded $400M/yr. Supported a production ramp fro
m 29 to 50 tools with an inexperienced engineering team and in an organization t
hat suffered broken relationships with ever other organization in the company.
Over six months all engineers were trained and functioning effectively, all rela
tionships were repaired, and production quotas were met.
Recruited, hired and trained staff of 10 optical, mechanical and systems engine
ers
Rebuilt broken relationships between internal organizations (mfg., customer acc
eptance, development engineering, field support, tech-ops, marketing, etc.) dama
ged by previous administrations
Managed outsourcing strategy and implementation
AlliedSignal Aerospace: Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (U.S. DoEnergy) 19
90 TO 2000
ON-ASSIGNMENT TO Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Senior Project Engineer/Laser Systems Engineer
Invented stray light mitigation strategies to eliminate damage to final optics w
here light intensities of multiple Giga-watts per square centimeter could have o
therwise blown holes in the metal structure and damaged optical elements. Survey
ed US European and Russian optical manufacturing organization to determine who d
oes what best. Used this knowledge to specify optical elements for the National
Ignition Facility (30,000 optics) which is the largest laser in the world.
Manager for Advanced Systems Engineering
Founded the Laser and Electro-Optics Advanced Development Group (included recrui
ting technical experts, specifying and managing the renovation of facilities, an
d procurement of capital equipment - the facility and capital was valued at $5M)
Responsible for marketing electro-optical systems capability to the Nuclear Weap
ons Complex (DOE) and outside industry, DOD & NASA
Served as a representative on the US DoEs Enhanced Surveillance Program, for the
assessment and improvement of the Nuclear Weapons Stockpile.
Succeeded in building an organization and facilities that allowed KCP to put ano
ther DoE facility out of business that had threatened about $100M/yr in business
.

Research, design, development and testing of Alexandrite & CO2 lasers (laser/op
tical & mechanical)
Analyzed laser tube manufacturing process for low power CO2 lasers
Increased laser tube production from 10 to 40 per month
Increased tube yield from <25% to >99%
