The Prof. A. K. Nazmul Karim was a pioneer sociologist in Bangladesh.

Biography of Prof. A. K. Nazmul Karim:

1) Full name: Abul Khair Nazmul Karim


2) Date of birth: August 1, 1922.
3) Date of death: November 18, 1982.
4) Place of birth: Laksmipur, Noakhali, Bangladesh.
5) Paternal residence: Vill.-Falgunkara,
Thana- Chowddagram, Dist. – Comilla.
6) Father’s name: Late Abu Rashid Nizamuddin Ahmed,
School Inspector.
7) Family members: Wife: Principal Syeda Jahanara
karim(Retired) and three daughters.

8) Educational Qualification:
 Entrance in 1939 AD. from Thakurgaon English High School in
Dinajpur.
 I. A. (1st Class) from Dhaka College in 1941 AD.
 B. A. Hons. (2nd Class 1st) in Political Science from Dhaka
University in 1944 AD.
 M. A. (2nd Class 2nd) in Political Science from Dhaka University
in 1946 AD.
 M. A. in both “Government” & “Sociology (1953) from Colombia
University of America studying 1951 - 1953 AD.
 PhD. in Sociology from London University under Prof. of
Sociology, T. B. Bottomore in 1964. PhD. thesis: “The Modern
Muslim Political Elite in Bengal” (1961-64).

Dhaka University on August 19, 1957.

 Professor of the Sociology Dept. of Dhaka University from 17-
12-1965 to 15-09-1982 and retired on 16-09-1982.
