RESEARCH WORK SUMMARY
Present Work
1. PhD Research: Development of Comprehensive Process Maps for Carbon Nanotube R
einforced Ceramic Nanocomposite Coatings with Improved Fracture and Wear Propert
ies
This includes the use of novel powder processing approach viz. chemical vapor de
position (CVD) technique for synthesizing uniformly dispersed carbon nanotube (C
NT) reinforced aluminum oxide (Al2O3) powder. Plasma spraying is utilized to fab
ricate CNT reinforced ceramic matrix composite. Parametric study on the CNT rein
forced powders was performed to establish reproducibility of the nanocomposite c
oatings in the real-life plasma spray environment. Microstructures of as-sprayed
coatings have been studied to understand over all microstructure. Effect of CNT
on mechanical properties and tribological properties has been investigated. The
characterization includes measuring microhardness, thermal conductivity and mic
rostructure and mechanical characterization using XRD, FTIR, SEM/EDS, TEM, Micro
-Raman Spectroscopy, Nanoindentation with Scanning Probe Microscopy and Tribomet
er.
2. Liquid Precursor Plasma Spraying of CNT reinforced ceramic matrix composite.
3. Synthesis of Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) Coating via. Plasma Spraying and S
tudy of Nanomechanical Behavior of the Plasma Sprayed PZT Coatings.
4. Synthesis of Hafnium based Bulk Metallic Glass.
Work Experience in Ispat Industries Limited, Mumbai, India
Composition and microstructural characterization of Steel Coils and Optimization
of EBT filling Mass for Electric Arc Furnace using Six-Sigma tool: This include
s the use of Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) and Optical Microscopy. Optimiz
ation of Eccentric Bottom Tapping (EBT) Filling Mass for Electric Arc Furnace us
ing Six-Sigma tools. Consumption of EBT filling mass was reduced from 1.8 kg/Tls
to 1.2 kg/Tls.
Masters Thesis
Synthesis and Enhancement of properties of Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy (SMA) by
Alloying and thermo-mechanical Processing: Cu-Al-Ni shape memory was synthesized
using ingot casting method. Microstructural characterization of the SMA were in
vestigated which include the use of OES, XRD, Optical Microscopy, SEM. Cast SMA
alloys were rolled in hot rolling mill and ductility and shape memory properties
were studied.
