PROFESSIONAL HISTORY AND CAREER ACCOMPLISHMENTS


Custom Performance Systems, San Diego, CA
Founder - Business provided training/performance tools for the healthcare indust
ry.
* Designed, patented, managed production, and marketed Vaccinaid(R), a device to
aid health/child care providers in screening for immunization needs. Sold to th
e Texas Department of Health.
* Developed project plan and managed "The Immunization Technician Project", a pi
lot program designed to test the viability and impact of an innovative new healt
h care position. This project included the delineation of job tasks and the know
ledge/skills required to competently perform those tasks, curriculum development
, design and production of student and instructor materials, and final competenc
y exams. Pilot site was the John Wesley Community Health Institute in Los Angele
s. This project was funded by Merck & Co., Inc., and was later implemented in th
e El Paso City-County Health District by CPS.

Krames Communications, San Bruno, CA


Product Line Manager - Business is a leading publisher of patient education mate
rials.
* Supervised the revision, promotion and pricing of more than 150 products spann
ing a dozen medical markets.
* Identified marketplace needs, developed market growth opportunities, and manag
ed product development and ensuing product line expansion.

Co-Founder - Business created, published, marketed & distributed marketing/busin
ess planning software. Products included The Marketing Manager(R), a marketing p
lanning expert system, The Marketing Mentor, a self-instructional program coveri
ng all aspects of the marketing process, Sales Forcaster(R), a tool for projecti

supporting print materials. Authored The Marketing Mentor content (addressing si

Senior Partner/Co-Founder - Business specialized in training/performance improve
ment in the arenas of marketing, sales, strategic business planning and manageme
nt. Clients consisted of small to medium size businesses as well as Fortune 500
companies including Merck, Dupont, Pfizer, HCA, Baxter, Syntex, Warner Lambert,
Apple Computer, and Lederle Laboratories.
* Designed and implemented customized training programs in strategic management,
strategic marketing planning, tactical marketing implementation, the launch of
new products, product positioning, and sales. Developed comprehensive Marketing
Management Development curriculum and implementation plan for Merck & Co, Inc.

specifications, product launch sequences/requirements, etc. into flow diagrams,
step guides, operational/procedural manuals and PC software programs to serve as

* Co-authored and produced "Head Lice...A Community Based Epidemiological Contro

goal was to reposition one of its OTC products as the market leader.
* Co-directed this consulting business. Prospected for clients, prepared proposa

Educational Consultant - This consulting group conducts various projects designe
d to meet the continuing education/organizational development needs of health an
d human service workers in North Carolina and other Southeastern states.
* Responsibilities included internal and external consultation related to all ph
ases of program development - including front-end assessment and problem analysi
s, solution design, development and implementation, and program/impact evaluatio
n.
* Designed and conducted workshops and self-instructional programs on such topic
s as role clarification, assertiveness training, time management, and communicat
ing with clients.

* Directed major state and federally funded projects including:


- Creation and implementation of a comprehensive needs assessment system for 350
+ environmental health professionals ("NC Sanitarians in the Future: Practice an
d Proficiencies"). This project addressed current practice, assumptions concerni
ng future practice, and competencies related to each. Data analysis was conducte
d allowing the most critical needs to be identified and providing anonymous part
icipant feedback.
- Design and production of an AJN award winning mediated presentation with suppl
ementary print materials for the Maternal and Child Health Media Recruitment Pro
ject.
* Project management functions included the allocation and supervision of resour
ces as well as direct participation in Division searches and proposals for fundi
ng. Co-authored (and named Co-Director) and successfully funded "Meeting Compete
ncy Needs of Environmental Health Professionals," a three year quarter of a mill
ion dollar DHEW Public Health Training Grant to fund interventions addressing ne
eds identified during a comprehensive needs assessment system (see above).
* Presented at numerous professional meetings (Association of Schools of Public
Health, American Nurses Association, National Society for Performance & Instruct
ion) and co-authored "Organizationally Centered Continuing Education/Training -
One Management Answer to Future Problems in Health Care Delivery," published by
The Appalachian Business Review.
