Noise complaint

extended hours at the depot. However, Cheshire West and Chester councillors said the
depot was sufficient distance from the entrance to the Pool Bank Business Park and houses
so the potential for noise disturbance was reduced.

Tarporley Talk June 2011 7
Who cares? We do...
We make it our business to care!
Good news! We are all living longer!
Hopefully we will all stay fit and healthy and able to look after ourselves until a ripe old age.
Certainly we would wish to continue living in our own familiar surroundings for as long as possible.
Sadly many of us end up either living on our own or not able to cope by ourselves. It could be a
case of just needing companionship or help with the housekeeping. For others, who have to suffer
and cope with debilitating illnesses such as dementia or a physical disability, more specialist and
experienced care is required which can be extremely demanding on one’s family and friends.
It’s very important that elderly people are treated with respect. It is essential to remember that a
person with dementia is still a unique and valuable human being, despite their illness. They often
feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance and support.

Remain living in your own home and

feel happy, relaxed and secure
Instead of moving into a Residential Care Home, more and more people are preferring to employ a
home carer, but finding a Carer who is reliable, trustworthy, and can look after you with the greatest
of care, respect and understanding can be a worry. Not many of us would like a stranger coming
to live in our homes and have such personal involvement in our lives. Not only do you want an
experienced person who is competent to care for all your needs, but also someone who can become
your companion and has the time to listen.
For the last 43 years we have been providing just this type of care for the elderly, so please call us
and we will do our utmost to help.

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER

Parish council takes shape

THURSDAY 5th May this year was election day, both for our Borough, Cheshire West and
Chester, and for our Parish and Town Councils. Eleven people put their names forward
for the 12 places on Tarporley Parish Council, and so they took their places on the Parish
Council unopposed at their first meeting for 2011 -12 on Monday 9th May. The vacant
position has been advertised on the Parish Council notice board and in the Chester
Chronicle.
At the Annual Parish Meeting (prior to the May Parish Council meeting) the retirement of
Councillor Roy Craven was acknowledged and he was presented with a cut glass vase
with inscribed base and a wooden garden seat. The Parish Council wished to recognise
the contribution Roy has made to Tarporley, being a Parish Councillor since the 1970s, and
being involved with the Community Centre for around 40 years, the Methodist and Baptist
church and so much more. At the same meeting the Council were pleased to welcome two
new councillors, Linda Bennett and Victoria Adshead, and Ken Parker was voted as new
Chairman along with Dawn Joyce as Vice-Chairman.

There are a number of events for the diary:-

l The Lagonda Club are holding a Cheshire Tour from Sunday 5th June until Thursday 9
June, and will be in Tarporley on the Tuesday evening 7th, driving along High Street.

l On Friday 24th June at about 8pm a horse-drawn replica WW1 ambulance, being driven
by team of wounded servicemen, will arrive on route from Land’s End to John O’Groats,
all in aid of the charity, Help for Heroes. Before they arrive at 7 pm there is a ticket only
reception in the Hunt Room at the Swan Hotel.
Tickets are available from Mrs Edge Tel 01829
733838 at £40 per head with £20 going to the
charity.

l Tarporley Carnival will be taking place on the

Community Centre Fields on Saturday 9th July.

And finally:-
In an important message from our local Police Constable Ged Gigg and our PCSO Emily
Benson, they urge all residents of Tarporley to report all incidents of public disorder as soon
as they happen. If it is not an emergency situation, please ring 0845 458 0000 (This phone-
line is always staffed.). They are both concerned about a number of incidents which are not
reported at the time, but which they hear about days, or even weeks later, when it is difficult
or impossible for them to do anything about them.

Nautical theme for nursery

Students at Tarporley Sixth Form College have been undertaking a community art project
at Sunshine Day Nursery in Tarvin.
After meeting with the manager the team of students designed an under the sea theme for
the bathroom and toilets.
Rebecca Richardson, Emil Hill, Lucy
Rogers, Sarah McConachie, Felicity
Barber, Alice Woodward, Rebecca
Williams, Jane Robins-Aldous and
Robyn Blain carried out the work in
their own time and made every effort
to involve the children in the art work.
They have now completed a beautiful
under the sea bathroom that the
children love to use. This has made a
big difference to the nursery.
Some students will be returning in the
summer months to design a jungle-
themed garden play area.

Sixth Form College
Students find expedition a real test
53 students from Year 10 completed their assessment weekend for the Duke of Edinburgh
Bronze Award. On a very local expedition they walked from Tarporley to Tattenhall where
they camped out overnight at the Outdoor Centre and then returned the next day.
Despite the fact that the students should know their way between these two villages, the
‘A-Team’ still managed to end up in Duddon!
The group are planning to start their Silver Award in September!

A day to remember

Residents in The Avenue, Tarporley took advantage of the great bank holiday weather and
celebrated The Royal Wedding in style with a good old fashioned street party. The only
street in the village to do this, they even had a visit from a Parish Councillor who praised
their community spirit! Residents young and old turned out for the event and the children
had a day to remember. A fabulous day all round!

health & beauty with Angela Bartlett

Q. I am going to Chester Races for the first time and I have been
given money to spend on some beauty treatments, what would
you recommend?
A. You will be spending a lot of time on your feet so I would
always recommend a pedicure. The treatment will include the
removal of areas of hard skin which can cause uneven pressure
when you stand or walk leading to pain when you are on your
feet all day. In addition to the comfort factor it’s always great to
have professionally varnished toe nails, especially if you are
wearing open toe shoes or sandals! I would also have a file and
varnish on your finger nails to add a touch of well-groomed
glamour to your special day.
Depending on the type of outfit you are wearing a
spray tan is also a good idea to give you a nice, even,
healthy glow to your skin to set off your race day
outfit to perfection. For further race day beauty tips

Do you suffer from
chronic back pain and /or
chronic digestive disorders?
If the answer is yes, try a combination of
Colon Hydrotherapy and The Dorn Method
The Dorn Method is a gentle manual therapy for common Back and Joint pain,

The Dorn Method is also combined with a
very relaxing spinal massage called the Breuss
Massage.
This massage gently and safely nourishes,
aligns and energizes the back and
may alleviate the conditions of
constipation, IBS and other chronic
digestive disorders.
Colonic Hydrotherapy cares

Artery Age Check
Your diet, level of activity and lifestyle all affect how efficiently your heart
pumps precious oxygen-rich blood around your body, keeping cells
functioning properly.
Your heart’s age could be far older than your chronological age, potentially
shortening your life expectancy. But how can you tell what’s going on inside?
Young at Heart offers a simple, safe and non-invasive test. Our revolutionary
new cardiovascular scanner will measure the stiffness of your arteries and
give you an Artery Age for just £48. Results are immediate and are given to
you during the 30 minute consultation.
Should you have reason for concern, we can give you valuable information
about how to take preventative and remedial action.

Peckforton & Beeston WI

The May meeting started with a discussion on two proposed
Resolutions for the National Federation’s AGM, and the voting was
unaminously in favour of both. This was followed by a talk on ‘Climbing
Kilimanjaro’ given by Katie Mason. In October 2010 Katie watched
celebrities climbing Kilimanjaro in aid of charity and then made a
decision to support her own favourite charity (Railway Children Charity).
She described how she encouraged 24 senior railway staff and 2 other
charity workers to join her. They were able to raise £200,000 and had an experience of a lifetime.
The climb took them through 5 major eco-zones (Rainforest, Heath, Moorland, Alpine deserts and
Glaciers), and took 6 1/2 days to reach the summit and 1 1/2 days to descend. All completed the
climb but not without some altitude sickness and food poisoning.
Final arrangements for May’s holiday in the Brecon Beacons were made and plans discussed for
a Garden Party on June 1st to be held at the home of Libby Warriner. Names were also taken for
this year’s outing to Boundary Mill in Lancashire and then on to Gawthorpe Hall on July 6th.
New members are always welcome to meetings at the Peckforton Village Rooms on the first
Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm.
