machined to pattern, we can accept drawings by post, fax or email in most file formats.

Planing Charges and General Information

All prices are per running metre. Planed Prices are subject to a minimum charge of £10.00 for up to 8
metres per section, and thereafter £1.20 per metre. Please remember sawn sizes will finish
approximately 6mm undersize after planing. Sizes subject to availability.
This list is only a selection of our popular sizes – please contact our sales office if you would like details
of other sizes or availability of alternative timbers.
Hardwood Information
We are major stockists of a wide range of hardwoods from around the
world, and are able to quote against your cutting list in all commercially
available species. Below is a list of our additional timbers which are held in
significant volume in our Bristol depot, many of which are available with
sustainability certification. For further information and prices, please contact
our sales office who will be pleased to help.
Some additional hardwoods always in stock:

Yellow Cedar
Technically a softwood, this is a fairly heavy and durable cedar, often used
in the lower areas of boat hull construction, and is a popular alternative to
teak for boat decking. It works and finishes well.
Idigbo
A plain, pale yellow to light brown coloured wood. The grain is straight to
slightly irregular, and the texture is somewhat coarse and uneven. It is soft
to medium hard and stable in nature, thereby making it popular for external
joinery purposes.
American Lime
A light-coloured timber, varying from creamy-white to pale brown, with a
straight and fine grain. It is soft and light in weight, and ideal for cabinet
work where a fine finish is required.
Meranti
A popular low cost alternative to mahogany. The grain can be somewhat
interlocked and wavy, but it can be sanded to a fine finish and is popular for
all manner of internal and external joinery.
European Oak
Widely used for furniture and joinery. Appearance is similar to American
White Oak, but generally has more feature in its appearance being yellow to
brown in colour with a fine to medium grain
Jelutong
An easy timber to work with both hand and machine tools. It can be
finished to a very smooth surface, takes stains, polish and varnish very
well. Ideal for carving and pattern making applications.
Sapele
Works fairly well with hand and machine tools, but the inter-locked grain
can show in planed and moulded material. It polishes very well, and is
popular for internal and external joinery, furniture and flooring.
American Black Walnut

The timber is moderately hard, tough, strong and is easily worked. It
finishes well and takes an excellent polish. Popular for flooring, furniture
and sports goods.
