PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
ARL NETWORK INC., Moon Township, PA
Safety Director (2010)
Led a staff of nine, including six safety specialists handling driver approvals,
citations, and agent interactions. Oversaw fuel tax matters DOT compliance issu
es, tractor maintenance, and inspections for this large owner/independent busine
ss associate and fleet owner base of equipment utilizing utilize step decks, int
ermodal drayage, dry vans, reefers, and flat beds. Ensured trucks maintained mil
eage under 300,000 miles as part of complying with corporate policy.
Initiated the CSA 2010 program for the company in accordance with the soon to b
e enacted new DOT safety rules. Recommended establishing a relationship with Vig
illo to monitor and manage fleet risk.
Established an internal monitoring system within the safety department. Impleme
nted a corrective action program for drivers with scores above 80; issued discip
linary warnings and enforced counseling sessions to drive compliance with unsafe
driving, fatigue, driver fitness, drug and alcohol, vehicle maintenance, cargo
stability, and crashes.
Facilitated the bid process to establish a safety services company in the State

Senior Manager Safety. FedEx Ground Division, Moon Township, PA (2007-2010)
Promoted to a senior leadership position to coordinate safety training and polic
y enforcement across the FedEx Ground organization. The company specializes in p
roviding cost-effective shipping solutions for businesses and individuals global
ly and generates $7 billion in revenue per year, handling 3.5 million packages p
er day through 22,000 vehicles. Primarily focused on Over-the-Road contractors,
drivers, tractors, and trailers, managing and ensuring compliance with DOT regul
ations and OHSA policies. Formulated strategic plans and created practical manag
ement tools to track organizational adherence to safety objectives. Investigated
, analyzed, and researched every major accident involving FedEx equipment across
the United States and Canada to identify trends and learning opportunities. Upd
ated company safety policies and procedures to the latest industry standards, co

Introduced innovative driver safety awards to recognize superior service and co
mmitment to trucking safety. Assessed the current quality control processes for
driver safety and provided recommendations to eliminate non-functional programs.
Encouraged the use of two nation-wide vendors (Third Eye Inc. and Global Tech.
Inc.) to randomly record FedEx Ground drivers and external contractors operating
on interstate highways to validate the companys safety record. Rated driver per
formance, holding them accountable to video evidence.
Created performance incentive programs to encourage appropriate driving behavio
r and operational safety two or more satisfactory reviews at the driver level r
esulted in an individual employee cash bonus.
Installed the Linehaul Operational Training Program at the national level follo
wing its successful trial at the Western Regional Level. Advanced safety trainin
g techniques, delivered substantially measureable improvements, and demanded man
agement attention.
Created a daily weather telephone hotline for company drivers and contractors t
o use for trip planning and safety purposes. Innovative 800 number delivered val
uable real-time road condition and interstate traffic updates for FedEx drivers

Regional Maintenance & Safety Manager, FedEx Ground Division, Phoenix, AZ (1999-
2007)
Oversaw and managed safety policies, procedures, and standards governing FedEx G
round operations across the companys Western Regional territory that included So
uthern California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, and parts of Texas. Issued regul
ar status updates and process improvement recommendations. Supervised six direct
reports in safety consisting of two managers and four specialists. Accountable
to senior management for new initiatives, staff salary, training & development,
and driver awards. Created, maintained, and enforced all company policies relate
d to DOT and OSHA compliance that required expertise in the transportation for h
azardous materials.
Conceptualized, developed, and launched a Linehaul Driver Orientation Program t
o train and educate prospective drivers on proper truck safety procedures. Progr
am graduates experienced 58% fewer accidents in field compared to non-graduates,
travelling over 1.9 million miles on average before recording an incident. Pilo
t program adopted as company policy after eight years of testing.
Reduced the Linehaul Accident Frequency metric for six consecutive years from 2
000 to 2005, a company record. Improved the Hazardous Material Incident Rate by
2% annually from 1999 to 2007, and posted a 33% decrease in pick-up & delivery a
ccidents over the same period.
Defined a comprehensive training program focused on handling hazardous material
s for new employees and external contractors. Produced a video training guide di
stributed across the Western Regional organization that resulted in injury rates
trending toward a 14% reduction from 1999-2007, concurrently saving FedEx over
29% in workmans compensation.
Successfully implemented an Employee Safety Council in every major facility in
the Western region that established an open forum to share best practices, gener
ate training ideas, and escalate heightened concerns. Made up of management, con
tractors, drivers, and package handlers, the Safety Council represented every ma
jor operational stakeholder in the package delivery process.
