Accomplishments
Created and managed the technical and economic framework that guided the budget
s and goals required to implement B2B/B2C network and application software for w
ireless and wired converged services. This framework was used across a $40B fir
m as the foundation for distributed product and research teams to effectively tr
ansfer their innovations for cross-P&L enabled product solutions.
Collected, integrated, and managed the software / hardware product solutions pr
oposed by hundreds of multi-national cross-P&L staff to affect the convergence o
f communication systems voice, video, and data use cases across the B2B/B2C cell
ular, public safety, cable video, cable modem, and enterprise IT markets. This
cross-functional leadership role created unified product roadmaps customer accou
nt teams used to manage when system solutions would become available and were op
timal for a specific customer based on strategic fit, technical robustness, cost
, and time-to-market.
Led a 12-person technical team on as many as eight simultaneous projects spanni
ng 40 cross-P&L product / marketing managers and technical staff. The efforts r
esulted in dozens of hardware and software communications and IT systems used to
demo innovations to customers and analysts. Implementations often acted as base
line products.
Founding team member that designed the worlds first cable data Internet infrast
ructure and consumer modem products. The success of our products spawned a mult
i-billion dollar industry, enabled consumer broadband Internet access, and convi
nced Motorola to further invest in broadband cable networks through their $17 bi
llion purchase of General Instruments.
Created Multi-Dwelling Unit MDU Fiber-to-the-Curb FTTC systems for cable video,
data and voice short-haul fiber networks in urban environments. The system des
ign influenced the purchase of Quantum Bridge Comm. Inc whose MDU FTTC products
became Verizons $23 billion FiOS system (approx. price $250 million).
Researched and implemented software defined digital radios and high order stati
stical signaling processing algorithms. The work motivated Broadcom to create a
ll-digital receiver chipsets that saved Motorola millions of dollars each year f
or more than six years.
Designed and implemented hardware and Labview-based software test platforms for
factory and product development use. The system transformed manual testing into
a 24/7/365 operation.
Formally recognized as a Motorola Master Innovator with the granting of 10 USPT
O utility patents in the areas of software middleware, TCP/IP systems, cable net
works, signal processing, and radios.
Synthesized researchs positions for the government relation office to address o
ngoing legislative debates on service/network convergence, peer-to-peer networks
/applications, and network neutrality.
Authored and represented numerous whitepapers and presentations for senior, C-l
evel, and board management. Results defined resource allocations for innovative
technologies and business models.
