PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Bozeman Deaconess Hospital (BDH) (September 2004 to August 2010)


BDH is a Meditech Magic and NextGen shop located in Bozeman Montana. We are 86
beds with nine hospital owned clinics, two retail pharmacies, an independent liv
ing facility, an assisted living facility and 1300+ employees
Manager of Information Systems & Telecom
Responsibilities include:
Managing day-to-day operations of the team
Strategic planning for applications and infrastructure
Ensuring BDH IT and Telecom meet the hospitals business needs through process i
mprovement and the judicious use of technology.
Budgeting for both capital and operational
Integration of hospital acquired clinics into the Bozeman Deaconess System
Transitioning Bozeman Deaconess Hospital from a paper-based medical record to a
n Electronic Medical Record.
Major accomplishments:
Implementations
Amicas PACS V Implemented the PACS into the hospital and deployed the system to
30+physician practices.
Dictaphone PowerScribe & EWS V These systems reduced the Radiologist turn-aroun
d time from 24 V 72 hours to less than 30 minutes and cut the hospitals transcri
ption spend by over 50%.
NextGen V Managed the selection process of the system, vendor negotiations, gai
ned consensus among 20+ independent physician practices to use NextGen to create
a true community wide EMR. Oversaw the hardware configuration and build, built
the team to install, train, and manage the system, and assisted the legal depar
tment with the changes in the Stark Law.
Omnicell Medication dispensing units V Deployed Omnicell units through out the
hospital. The Omnicells reduced the number of locations nurses had to look for
medications from five to two and increased revenue capture by $225,000 for 2009.
Meditech Nursing documentation, eMAR, and BMV V Implemented all three systems i
n 11 months to seven departments and 300 users. These systems increased revenue
capture $70,000 and directly prevented 252 medication errors for 2009
Digital Mammography V Implemented this system in 3 months.
Infrastructure
Nortel Phone System V Replaced the T1 cards to PRI cards and upgraded the softw
are in the switch doubling the capacity of the switch from 1000 users to 2000 us
ers. This capacity will carry the hospital past its 2020 growth plans
Cisco network and 1GB to the desktop V Oversaw the migration from HP to Cisco a
nd from cat 3 & 5 to Cat 6
SAN infrastructure V Oversaw the migration from server based storage to SAN sto
rage.
Facilities
Oversaw the computer and telephony setup for the following:
o New Cancer Center
o New Rehabilitation Services Department
o New Imaging Center
Oversaw the computer and telephony conversion and integration of eleven Physici
an practices into BDHs systems

Management
Oversaw the expansion of the team from three to twelve
Manage 3.5 million in capital projects each year within a 2% variance
Manage 1.75 million in operational expenses to within a 3% variance
Introduced project management and project oversight to the hospital
Part of the Leadership Development team, the Legal Medical Record team, Clinica
l Informatics committee, Project Planning team, and the Going Green Environmenta
l team
Current projects:
Ensuring the hospital meets the HITECH acts Meaningful Use requirements in orde
r to capture all the revenue that is being offered.
In the process of implementing Meditechs Scanning and Archiving, Data Repositor
y; with MediSolves front end, and PCM (CPOE)
Implementation of ImageNow documentation archiving system
Upgrade to Exchange 2007 and Microsoft Office 2010
Integrating additional clinics into BDH

Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital (March 2003 to August 2004)


Burdette Tomlin is a Meditech Magic shop located in Cape May Court House New Jer
sey. It is a 242 bed facility.

Managed the reorganization of the IS team and the day-to-day operations of the
team
Strategic planning for applications and infrastructure
Budgeting for both capital and operational
Oversaw the first implementation of Meditechs Bedside Medication Verification s
ystem at a non-HCA hospital.
Transitioning Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital from a paper-based medical reco
rd to an Electronic Medical Record.

Managed the reorganization of the Quality Assurance department.
Responsible for transitioning the team from an audit role to that of an enabler
