CHAPTER 1

Introduction

The package, Truth Tables and Boolean algebra set out the basic

principles of logic. Any Boolean algebra operation can be associated with an

electronic circuit in which the inputs and outputs represent the statements of

Boolean algebra. Although these circuits may be complex, they may all be

constructed from logic gates.

Logic gates are key components which help to define a logical sequence

of actions that take place under given circumstances. There are a total of seven

different configurations for the logic gate. Each one is designed to handle various

combinations and sequences of logical response that help the digital circuit to

function at optimal efficiency. Because the logical command will vary according

to circumstances, a digital circuit often employs several if not all of these seven

configurations.

Learning on how do these logic gates work isn’t enough to fully to fully

understand it. With this in mind, the proponents would like to propose a software

that would simulate the inputs using logic gate.

Main Problem: The purpose of this study is to develop a software entitled: “Logic

Gate Simulator”. In order to meet the requirements of the proposed software, it is

important to identify what process used in studying and creating logic gates and

logic circuit by understanding how the logic gates and logic circuits work. The

proponents will identify the problems encountered with a manual solving of logic

output to design and develop a software which can lessen if not eliminate the

problem of the manual method of solving by having a user – friendly interface

and a feature that shows the output of the logic circuit created and to proved that

the proposed software is operationally feasible.

Statement of the Problem

1. What are the input variables in developing the proposed software or

encountered problem on the manual method of solving?

2. What are the design considerations for the development of the

software in terms of:

a. algorithm;

b. data structure;

c. architectural design;

d. software design.

3. What type of Simulation to be used?

2
4. What is the level of acceptability of the proposed software in terms

of:

a. reliability;

b. effectiveness;

c. accuracy; and

d. interactivity.

Assumption

The proponents assumed that having a Logic Gate Simulator would

provide a faster and accurate result after showing the corresponding output of

each Gate. This study would show that the proposed study is operationally

feasible.

Scope and Limitation

The Logic Gate Simulator allows the user to simulate simple circuits of

logic gates on the screen. The simulator will have to select two different fixed

bread boards. The user can choose among the seven different types of gates

which will be placed on the board. Each logic gate takes one to three inputs and

produces a single output depending on the bread board that the user chose.

Each board will only allow up to three logic level logic gates and it will only

focused on the seven different type of gate s and will not include any other

computations included in the Boolean algebra topic.. The proposed software is

not Web or LAN based.

3
Significance of the study

After conducting the study, the proposed software will be able to help the

target users or beneficiaries from which are the students, instructors, the

proponents and the future proponents.

Engineering Students. The proposed software is significance to the

students in a way that they can understand how the Logic Gates work. Since it is

computerized they can study at home or anywhere they want where there is a

computer.

Proponents. The proposed study would be able to help the proponents to

improve the skills in programming and designing with the use of Action Script,

Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Flash 8.0 and for the proponents to have a

better understanding on Logic Gates.

Future researchers. The proposed study can be used as a guide or

reference for those who wish to make similar study by providing a starting point

for making researcher and document creation even easier.
