I taught myself how to use all of the computer business software and built a web
site business named Uhura Way Inc and two web sites shecomforthecomfort.com and

I also was an e-commerce retailer and distributor for Nuskin Enterprises a globa
l healthcare and beauty related products. Company .The company has suffered due
to the economic down turn and has yet to recover. The new site www.aromatherapyc
omfort.com was launched May 2009 with high hopes and expectations.

ECQ 1: Leading Change I am familiar with the VA VASRD, DES, and DOD MEB. I can
function very well in any clinical setting .I have adapted to and at times impro
ved performance in setting ranging from minimal rural through high risk urban to
high tech medical .When I worked for an HMO in the Philadelphia area I would ha
ve to at times cover up to six distinct clinical environments in a week .It was
not the ideal situation but I consistently maintained a high level of care and p
atient satisfaction in each .I am adaptable to new innovations and still can hol
d to the proven standards of care and service and I can often negotiate the midd
le ground in disputed matters . I listen when needed and talk to the point but c
an also establish an easy rapport with almost anyone on a wide range of subjects
. I don't believe that there is any idea that can't be discussed and evaluated f
or possible use in an ever changing environment to implement improvement.
ECQ 2: Leading People I have been a clinical instructor my entire career and I h
ave taught groups from laypersons to fellow scientist. I have lead groups in civ
ic and church context and love to stimulate the love of learning in young people
. I feel it is important to lead by example and to earn the respect that leads t
o team work and cooperation. I feel this is best served with open input and inte
raction and avoidance of personal invective and inner office clics.Knowledge is
power and learning never stops for any of us and I believe that the answer to an
y problem can be found if you remain open to multiple sources of information.
ECQ 3: Results Driven I have built a small e-commerce business and also work as
an executive for another and until the economy made what I offered less that a n
ecessity. Both were starting to build slowly. I have made some improvements to m
y web site but I think now that the medical field is my first best destiny. I be
lieve that the cost are now outstripping the benefits of total independence .I c
an analyze the problems, risks, and apply technical knowledge better for medical s
ituations and practice concerns than the retail market .I can meet organizationa
l goals and did so in last yearas presidential race as Kempsville district capta
in and during the voter registration drive. I enjoyed it greatly and helped to t
urn Virginia Democratic for the first time in 40 years.
ECQ 4: Business Acumen This may be my weakest area. I have hired and fired indiv
iduals when needed and can make the hard choices when needed but I don't care fo
r it and would prefer to delegate this task to others. I also have limited accou
nting skills but know my limitations and strengths. I can place people in the mo
st advantageous positions based on their strengths for the good of the organizat
ion and explain why they need to be there. I know how to fully use information t
echnology and incorporate it to my advantage. I continue to learn the new comput
er and other media contact modalities. I have no fear of innovation and apprecia
te its ongoing value in modern life.
ECQ 5: Building Coalitions/Communications My experience is greater with building
coalitions within an organization but I can communicate with anyone, anywhere,
anytime about what is needed to get the job done. I have no problems talking one
on one or in large groups and I am open to the other person's ideas and willing
to negotiate concepts to achieve results. I can also well defend my point of vi
ew if need be to acquire the best outcome. Years of dealing with insurance compa
nies have taught me well when and where to play hardball. You don't survive almo
st 30 years in medicine without knowing how to hold your own as well as when com
promise and mediation will win the day. It is best to have all of your knowledge
up to date and accurate as well as a fair idea of the other party's needs and d
esires .Be plain spoken and honest about your own goals and present them in a co
ncise and understandable format and then work to find the common ground that mee
ts to most possible needs of the parties involved. The art of it is to know when
to be flexible and when to stand rock solid on a concept you know is right. It
is then you pull on the experience, thought, courage and faith we call judgment to
reach the goal
