A special project, which lead to the next assignment, began as an effort by the
newly appointed Deputy Director to overhaul the record keeping and procedural as
pects of the Field Operations Division and evaluate the feasibility of contracti
ng maintenance activities. It evolved into the development of a computerized ma
intenance scheduling system for the 2,500 mile public sewage conveyance system o
wned and operated by Pima County. Duties included researching the cost of contr
acted maintenance services, researching and specifying software and hardware, bi
dding, negotiating for conversion services, budgeting and project justification,
supervision of project personnel, training of staff, trouble shooting hardware
and software problems, liaison with the vendor, and gaining the cooperation of F
ield Operations Division personnel.
