CES
From locksmith’s shop to high-tech enterprise

CES is an internationally leading manufacturer of locking

systems and electronic access control systems with a his-
tory that dates back to 1840.
The company is based in Velbert and pioneered the indus-
trial production of locking cylinders in Germany.
When Carl Eduard Schulte took over the firm from his fa-
ther in 1857, he gave it the name it still bears today – C.Ed.
Schulte Zylinderschloßfabrik or CES in short. Under this
name, the company established its national and interna-
tional reputation as a specialsit for reliable security sys-
tems. Today, the two subsidiaries CESlocks and CEStronics
CES in former times
round off the product portfolio.
The group has about 430 employees and generated sales of
38 million euros in 2008. In addition to its Velbert produc-
tion location, CES also operates a manufacturing facility in
Romania.
CES has sales offices in many European countries and is
globally represented through various partner companies.

CES today/
Types of locking systems

A locking system is used whenever more than one door is to

be locked and unlocked.Locking systems can also serve as
an organizational tool since they allow the implementation
of hierarchically structured access authorizations.
Locking systems can map internal organizational structures
or reflect the typical uses of the building.
A locking system should always be planned in close coop-
eration between the developer and the planning office.Only
this will ensure that an ideal structure isfound that affords
the flexibility to make changes and extensions even years
after its initial installation.
Which type of locking system is installed depends on the
specific requirements.
