Description

A "Children's Day", as an event, is celebrated on various days in many places

around the world, in particular to honor children. Major global variants include an
International Children's Day on March 19 as adopted in the former Communist
bloc, and a Universal Children's Day on March 19, by United Nations
recommendation. Children's Day is often celebrated on other days as well.
International Children's Day
The World Conference for the Well-being of Children in Geneva, Switzerland
proclaimed June 1 to be International Children's Day in 1925. It is not clear as to
why June 1 was chosen as the International Children's Day: one theory has it that
the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese
orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on
June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva.
The holiday is celebrated on March 19 each year. It is usually marked with
speeches on children's rights and wellbeing, children TV programs, parties, various
actions involving or dedicated to children, families going out, etc.
Observance around the world

Children´s Day in Colombia
In Colombia, the Congress of Colombia ratified the Convention through law
number 12 of 1991 and the Constituent Assembly included the principles of
comprehensive protection of children in its dual dimension, ensuring the rights of
children and protection in especially difficult circumstances. (Political Constitution
of Colombia. 1991. Articles: 13, 44, 45, 50 and 67).
The rights of children can be categorized as follows:

1 - Right to life
2 - Right to development
3 - Identity Rights
4 - Right to participation
5 - Right to be protected
