Advanced Whitewater: The Numbers on the Arkansas River South of Leadville (Class IV) Miners in the late 1800s viewed these eight rapids on the northern section of the Arkansas as non-navigable landmarks rather than as the quintessential Class IV classics that theyre viewed as today; hence they appointed them the numbers that remain as their names. The simplicity of their labels, however, does not reflect simplicity in their character. This run is charged with high-intensity, continuous whitewater and punctuated by the eight notorious Numbers. Paddling the Numbers requires good physical condition and a minimum of 15 years. ADVANCED 6.5 hours (lunch available for $14 per person) Adults (ages 15 & up) $129.72 per person (Inclusive of tax, surcharge & 20% service charge)

Keystone Resort Summer Activities 2011 _____________________________________________________________ TREE PLANTING

Forests have been described as the lungs of the earth. Here is an opportunity to foster that energy and expand the complex community of the forest where trees and other plants and animals live in delicate balance. Consider becoming hands-on stewards of the forest by planting trees in Keystone as a group. This activity includes an introduction of the local ecology by a member of our environmental staff, tree-planting supervision, trees, shovels, gloves, and flag markers for the new trees. Activity requires approximately 2 hours. Minimum amount of people for this activity is 20. Maximum number of people for this activity is 60. Cost is $20 per person and a 20% gratuity will be added to your final bill. This activity is available spring through fall and requires advance reservations What tree planting accomplishes: One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people. -U.S. Department of Agriculture The planting of trees means improved water quality, resulting in less runoff and erosion. This allows more recharging of the ground water supply. Wooded areas help prevent the transport of sediment and chemicals into streams.- USDA Forest Service In laboratory research, visual exposure to settings with trees has produced significant recovery from stress within five minutes, as indicated by changes in blood pressure and muscle tension. Dr. Roger S. Ulrich, Texas A&M University
