Agenda
Recap cluster terminology (basics) Discuss changes from Exchange 2000 clustering Discuss different migration/deployment methods
Cluster Terminology
Node physical servers Shared Disk External disk accessible by all nodes (not IP based)
Cluster Group of nodes working as a single system to make sure of high availability of applications.
Virtual server IP address, network name, physical disk, and application EVS Exchange virtual server
EVS
Disk IP Network Name Exchange Resources
Local Drive: Exchange Binaries
EVS Data

Active/Passive Fewer EVS than number of nodes (recommended) Active/Active Number of EVS equal to or greater than number of nodes
Virtual memory (VM) fragmentation fragmentation Two instances of store running in one memory space Not sufficient VM to bring resource online
Operating system Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Windows Server (up to two nodes) Windows 2000 Datacenter Server (up to four nodes) Windows 2000 must have SP3 + hotfix or SP4 Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Server Edition (up to eight cluster nodes) Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition (up to eight cluster nodes)

Block removal of node if EVS is running /disasterrecovery switched blocked Prevent Exchange 2003 from being first nonnon-legacy server in Exchange 5.5 site By default, POP3 and IMAP4 resource not created POP3 And IMAP4 Cluster Resources Are Not Created When You Create a New Exchange Virtual Server Cluster

Rolling upgrade Move all EVS to one node Run Setup.exe on passive node (restart as necessary) Move EVS to upgraded node On the upgraded node, right-click the System rightAttendant Resource in Cluster Administrator and select Upgrade Exchange Virtual Server Run Setup.exe on other node (restart as necessary) Redistribute EVS (if applicable)

Not just removing the System Attendant resource anymore. If System Attendant is removed through cluster administrator, events will be logged, warning that it was not removed correctly. Active Directory objects will not be removed. Directory Just re-create the System Attendant resource and rethen remove it correctly. Remove Exchange Virtual Server option. Context option on both EVS group, and on System Attendant. Because of cluster service account permission changes, your interactive logon account must have the permissions to remove the Active Directory objects.
