When you are travelling to India, it is advisable to carry basic clothing and carry a lightweight bag.

Do not stuff your bag with unnecessary clothing. There is not a particular dress code in India, so there is no hard and fast rule regarding dressing up in India. You require different types of clothes in different seasons. It is suggested to wear clothes that cover you decently enough, as not to attract unwanted attention. It is advisable to avoid wearing shorts, tank top and exposing clothes at most of the places in India, as it may offend some Indian customs. One can wear sleeveless shirts if they are decent, and it is suggested to carry a scarf or a stole to cover your head to avoid heat in the daytime. At temples and other religious places, it is compulsory to cover your head; hence, the scarf may come handy.
