Students who attended the Hunger Banquet learned about the Hunger-Obesity Paradox and were fed a variety of low-priced foods including traditional McDonalds meals.

It seems like there isnt much left to say on the American food system. There is widespread agreement by almost everybody that change needs to be made, and soon. The recent Hunger Banquet did an excellent job of presenting yet another side of the great American food dilemma: hunger, obesity,

health and equity. For those unfamiliar with the basics, the gist is this: obesity is a product of social inequity, because the poor are put into a situation where healthier (and more expensive) food is unavailable to them. Rather than blaming obesity on sloth, ignorance, or a lack of personal responsibility, we should look to the environmental problems that

cause the epidemic. One of the common knee-jerk reactions to the problems have causes approach to obesity is the ban. From Portland, ME to Portland, OR various forms of bans are being enacted to block certain foods or restaurants from forming. Story continued | Opinions 4

Instead of a Spring Fling dance, this semester the College will celebrate the arrival of our new president, Barry Glassner, with a dance at the Crystal Ballroom.
The inauguration is happening this spring both because President Glassner officially started mid-term this fall and because an event of this size takes time to plan and coordinate. There are, to ballpark it, around forty people involved in organizing all the events, and people from all over the country invited to attend, said Heintz. At least to a degree, high profile is par for the course with such events. Said Heintz, Colleges and universities handle inaugurations in very different ways. Some do a very small, strictly official event where the inauguration happens, called an instillation, and some have events that carry on for many days. I think weve struck a happy medium here. An event of this caliber is sure to incur great expenses, but as Heintz explains, the fee for an inauguration is not an unexpected one. Going into this knowing that we needed a new president, the board knew that an inauguration goes with the territory, so they had budgeted for it. Its not like were going into the hole for this. Its good news for people who love Lewis & Clark. This spring, Apr. 7-9th, the community will come together to celebrate the inauguration of our president Barry Glassner. The inauguration will include an academic symposium, a formal installation ceremony, and an Inaugural Bash downtown at the Crystal Ballroom, at which the top two bands from LCs Battle of the Bands competition will headline. Although technically his inauguration, Barry Glassner stresses that the events are centered around the entire community. Said Glassner, Im honored that so many people are coming together for this occasion. The inauguration is a time for all of us to celebrate as a community and to reflect on the exciting future of the college. Director of Public Relations Jodi Heintz echoed this view, saying, I think [the inaugurations] really an opportunity for us to showcase this place.
