authentication using water marking ABSTRACT

One of the serious problems is how to authenticate the passport document for its holder. The major factor of this authenticity is the corresponding of the Passport's photo with its holder. Most of the Passport document contains a holder's signature in addition, of course, to the full name. We propose a firm authentication method by extracting some features for the original name of the holder with the passport number and digest them in a form, by applying some techniques, which can be hidden in the passport's photo. The modern method of issuing a passport now is by using a computer in fixing the passport's photo (imaging). In using this method we could hide the invisible watermark which contains the digest name and passport number inside the passport's photo. During the hidden process there are many techniques that could be applied to disguise any color difference that appears during the hidden process. After using this technique, it is very simple to use the computer in scanning and verifying, at check point, that the passport's photo has been not replaced by comparing the invisible watermark with the digest name of the holder and passport number. EXISTING SYSTEM The passport documents contain holder name, passport number, and signature of the holder, place of issue, date of issue, name of the issuing authority and expiry date of the passport. In the current checking points, all the above mentioned details of the passport holder are verified. The photo present on the passport is compared

with the face of holder and if the both are tallied then the holder is assumed to be authorized and is allowed to use the passport. Under suspicious circumstances, the signature of the holder and the one that is provided on the passport are cross verified. If they are tallied, then the user is assumed to be valid. If the signature does not tally with the one that is present on the passport, then the photo is assumed to be replaced or altered. If this is detected, the person intending to use the passport is considered illegitimate user and is liable to prosecution. Even if the signatures match with each other and if the difference between the photo and the face is considerably large, it is also considered a crime and the signature is said to be forged. LIMITATIONS The current system cannot detect the alterations made to the

photo of the holder on the passport document. If the photo present on the passport document is replaced by

another, then the present system fails in effective detection of such replacements. Verification of hand-written signatures does not appear to be

sound technique because they are vulnerable to forgery. If the signature of the holder is forged, then such forgeries

cannot be effectively detected. PROPOSED SYSTEM The aim of the proposed method is to develop a firm connection between the passports photo and the passport details. In this case it is possible to use the method of digital watermarking for confirmation of passports information. Digital watermarking has been suggested to play an important role in securing the business as it allows placing

an imperceptible mark in the multimedia data to identify the legitimate owner and to prosecute the pirate.
