1.1 About this document

This guide is intended for the system administrator or an IT professional who is responsible for the installation, deployment, and maintenance of SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI products. The topics covered in this guide are: Installing Service Pack on Windows Installing Service Pack on Linux Silent installation of Service Pack Uninstalling Service Pack For a complete set of SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 documentation, see: http://help.sap.com

1.1.1 Purpose
This document is intended for system administrator's reference, and should be used when updating SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI with the most recent Service Packs.

1.1.2 Constraints
This guide does not describe how to set up a host operating system, supported database, web application server, or web server. Introduction

1.2 What's new

SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack 3 provides the following new features: Updated Installation framework SAP BusinessObjects Explorer XI 3.2 SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2

1.2.1 Updated Installation framework

SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1Service Pack 3 introduces a new update framework for installing Service Packs on Windows platforms. This has been provided to reduce the time taken to install updates on Windows. The new framework introduces some changes to the way Service Packs are uninstalled from Windows system. In the "Add or Remove Programs" screen on Windows system, Service Pack version 3 appears as separate entries, and not as sub-entries of a core product. Uninstalling a core product does not automatically remove related Service Pack updates.

1.2.2 SAP BusinessObjects Explorer XI 3.2

SAP BusinessObjects Explorer XI 3.2 is a web-based search and exploration application that enables business professionals to explore and search through business information. By selecting from the available values, you can focus on datasets to set the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that is of interest. By default, a formatted chart displays the application's best guess data selection. As you filter your search parameters, the graphical representation of the results changes accordingly. You can easily switch chart formats, sort or rank the presented data depending on your preferred analysis. It is easy to export results of your personal exploration view either as an image or into other applications such as SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence or CSV-compatible office applications to continue further calculations or build reports. For more information on SAP BusinessObjects Explorer XI 3.2, see SAP BusinessObjects Explorer Administrator's Guide.

2.3 Service Pack language support

SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack supports product language pack updates for the following languages: Czech Danish Dutch English Finnish French German Hungarian Italian Japanese Korean Norwegian Polish Portuguese Russian Simplified Chinese Slovak Spanish Swedish Thai Traditional Chinese Note: The Hungarian and Slovak language packs can be installed only on Service Pack 3 and higher. The Service Pack installation program automatically updates previously installed language packs. You cannot install a new language pack when installing a Service Pack. SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 1 supports only English language.

If you are installing a Language Pack that was not available during earlier Service Packs, you must ensure that your SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI deployment is at the same level or higher than the

14

2010-09-13

Planning

Language Pack that you are installing. For example, if your deployment is at Service Pack 1.2 and you want to add the Czech Language Pack from Service Pack 1.3, you must either Update your deployment to Service Pack 1.3, which is the same level as the Czech Language Pack, and then install the Czech Language Pack, or Update your deployment to a higher level than the Language Pack, such as Service Pack 2.1, install the Czech Language Pack from Service Pack 1.3, and then apply the Service Pack 2.1 Language Pack update. If you want to install a Language Pack that is at a lower level than the level of your SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI deployment, install the Language Pack and then apply the Language Pack update so that the Language Pack is at the same level as your deployment. For information on installing an additional language pack, see SAP BusinessObjects Edge Series 3.1 Installation Guide for your platform.

2.4 Service Pack installation limitations and restrictions

The following limitations and restrictions apply to Service Pack installation: Service Packs are patch installations, not complete product installations. An SAP BusinessObjects product must be installed in order to install a Service Pack. A Service Pack only updates files that are already installed. For example, if you previously performed a custom installation, the Service Pack will only update the subset of files that was installed during an initial installation. Service Packs only contain updates and fixes for existing product features. New features are not included in Service Pack releases. Service Packs can only be installed in their entirety. You cannot install a subset of Service Pack updates. It is required that all components in an SAP BusinessObjects system be at the same Service Pack level. For example, SAP BusinessObjects server, client, and web components must be at the same Service Pack level. If you update one component of your SAP BusinessObjects system, you must also update the other components. If you uninstall a Service Pack for one component in your system, you must uninstall the same Service Pack for the other components. If you install a new SAP BusinessObjects product or component to your system after Service Pack installation, you must apply the Service Pack to the system where you installed the new product or component to ensure that all SAP BusinessObjects products and components are at the same Service Pack level. Service Packs can only be installed on a deployment that is at the same Service Pack level. For example, Service Pack 1.x can be installed on SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1, but cannot be installed on SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack 3. You cannot install an earlier Service Pack on top of a later Service Pack. For example, you cannot install Service Pack 2 if Service Pack 3 is already installed. Note: Service Packs are cumulative. For example, Service Pack 3 contains all Service Pack 2 updates as well as Service Pack 3 updates.

15

2010-09-13

Planning

If you uninstall a core product, the Service Packs for that product are not automatically uninstalled. You must manually uninstall the Service Packs. For example, if you uninstall SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack 3, you must manually uninstall 3.x Service Packs from your system. It is only possible to automatically redeploy SAP BusinessObjects web application components using the Service Pack installation program if you originally deployed the web application components using the SAP BusinessObjects installation program. For more information, see Updating web application components. You cannot install a new language pack when applying a Service Pack. SAP BusinessObjects Service Packs only update languages that were previously installed with your SAP BusinessObjects installation. For information on installing an additional language pack for SAP BusinessObjects products, see the SAP BusinessObjects Edge Series 3.1 Installation Guide.

While installing SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 2 refer to the SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 2 Installation Guide for your platform. While installing SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 1 refer to the SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 Service Pack 1 Installation Guide for your platform.

2.5 Planning your Service Pack installation

Before applying a Service Pack to your SAP BusinessObjects system, the following steps are recommended: Identify all SAP BusinessObjects products and components that require updates. For the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 release, Service Packs are provided for each SAP BusinessObjects product that has its own installer. Refer to SAP BusinessObjects Service Packs to identify the Service Packs required for your upgrade. It is required that all SAP BusinessObjects products and components be at the same Service Pack level, except for SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 which should be at Service Pack 1. This includes SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI servers, client tools, web components, and other SAP BusinessObjects products such as Live Office and integration kits. If you have SAP BusinessObjects web application components installed, ensure that you have defined an update path for these components. The update path depends on how you initially deployed the web application components. For more information, see Updating web application components. Before you begin, review Service Pack installation limitations and restrictions. Review Service Pack installation scenarios. The scenarios may be of assistance in planning your upgrade. Before you begin, gather all required documentation. Depending on your upgrade, additional SAP BusinessObjects documentation such as the SAP BusinessObjects Edge Series 3.1 Installation Guide may be required.

Installation scenarios

Installation scenarios

3.1 Service Pack installation scenarios

This topic describes common Service Pack installation scenarios that may be helpful in planning your Service Pack installation. Scenario 1: Applying a Service Pack to an SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installation In this scenario you must apply the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack. Note: A typical SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installation includes client tools. The SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack will update client tools that were installed as part of the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installation. If you want to install client tools using the SAP BusinessObjects Client Tools installer, see Scenario 2. Scenario 2: Applying a Service Pack to an SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Client Tools installation If you have originally installed SAP BusinessObjects client tools using the SAP BusinessObjects Client Tools installer, you must apply the SAP BusinessObjects Client Tools Service Pack. If you want to use an SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack to upgrade an SAP BusinessObjects Client Tools installation, the installer will fail and you will receive an error message. Scenario 3: Applying Service Packs to a system with multiple SAP BusinessObjects products Due to product interdependencies, it is required that all SAP BusinessObjects products are at the same maintenance level except for SAP BusinessObjects Data Services XI 3.2 which should be at Service Pack 1. For example, if you want to apply a Service Pack to Live Office, and SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI, you must apply Service Packs for the two products so that all products are running at the same Service Pack level. In this scenario, you must apply a Live Office Service Pack, and an SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack. Scenario 4: Applying Service Pack updates to web application components How you apply Service Pack updates to web application components depends on how components were originally deployed. For more information on applying updates to SAP BusinessObjects web application components, see Updating web application components

19

2010-09-13

Installation scenarios

3.2 Updating web application components

How you apply a Service Pack update to SAP BusinessObjects web application components depends on how the components were originally deployed. One of the following three scenarios apply: If you have deployed SAP BusinessObjects web components using the SAP BusinessObjects installation program, the Service Pack installation program allows you to update web components automatically when you apply an SAP BusinessObjects Service Pack. Follow the Service Pack installation steps in this guide to update web application components using the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack installation program. If you have deployed SAP BusinessObjects web application components manually, updates must be applied manually after installing the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack. For more information on manual deployment for web application components, see BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Web Application Deployment Guide. If you deployed SAP BusinessObjects web application components using the wdeploy tool, you can apply updates manually or use the wdeploy tool after installing the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack. Instructions for the wdeploy tool are found in the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Web Application Deployment Guide. If you deploy web components manually or using the wdeploy tool, you must first install the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI Service Pack to obtain the updated WAR files. The SAP BusinessObjects WAR files are required for web application deployment. For more information, refer to the wdeploy or manual deployment instructions in the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 Web Application Deployment Guide. Note: If your SAP BusinessObjects system includes web components, you must update the web components as part of your Service Pack upgrade. It is required that all SAP BusinessObjects components, including web components, be at the same Service Pack level.

3.3 Saving web.xml file modifications

When a Service Pack is installed, the web.xml files for SAP BusinessObjects web applications that have been deployed to a web application server are overwritten. This means that any customization that you have made by changing the web.xml files are lost after applying a Service Pack update.

20

2010-09-13

Installation scenarios

If you modified a web.xml file for an SAP BusinessObjects web application and do not want to lose your modification, you must make the modifications in the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI installation directory. On Windows systems, this directory is <InstallDir>\BusinessObjects Enterprise 12.0\warfiles\WebApps. On Linux systems, this directory is <InstallDir>/bobje/enterprise120/warfiles/WebApps. After you have applied the Service Pack, rebuild the affected .war files and redeploy the .war files to the web application server.

Service Pack installation on Windows

You must have Administrator privileges on your Windows system to run an SAP BusinessObjects Service Pack installation. In order to free resources on the system on which you are installing this Service Pack, it is recommended that you use the Central Management Console (CMC) to stop all of the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI servers on the system before installing the Service Pack, with the following exceptions: Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) Central Management Server (CMS) Input and Output File Repository Servers (FRS) CMS system database These services and servers must be running for the installation to proceed. Note: Before you apply a Service Pack, if you have modified web.xml files for SAP BusinessObjects web applications, see Saving web.xml file modifications. If you are updating a product that contains server components from SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1, the installation setup program prompts you for information on your deployment's Central Management Server (CMS). This is required to update content that is stored in the CMS database, such as localized strings for server properties.

4.3 Silent installation on Windows

4.3.1 Performing silent installation using a response file on Windows

SAP BusinessObjects Service Packs can be installed silently using a response file. Silent installation is particularly useful when you need to quickly perform multiple installations or automate installations. To run a silent installation using a response file you must first create a .ini file using the SAP BusinessObjects setup program. Once you have created the .ini file, you can run a silent installation by running the setup.exe command and specifying the path to the .ini file. 1. Create an installation .ini file (a response file). a. Open a command line console. b. From the directory that contains the SAP BusinessObjectssetup.exe file, run the setup.exe command with the write option (-w) specified:
setup.exe -w filename.ini responsefilepath

where filename.ini is the name you have given to the response file and responsefilepath is the location where you want the file created.

5.1 Installing the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI 3.1 Service Pack on Linux
In order to free resources on the system on which you are installing this Service Pack, it is recommended that you use the Central Management Console (CMC) to stop all of the SAP BusinessObjects Edge BI servers on the system before installing the Service Pack, with the following exceptions: Server Intelligence Agent (SIA) Central Management Server (CMS) Input and Output File Repository Servers (FRS) CMS system database These services and servers must be running for the installation to proceed. Note: If you have modified web.xml files for BusinessObjects web applications, see Saving web.xml file modifications before you apply a Service Pack. If you are updating a product that contains server components, the installation setup program prompts you for information on your deployment's Central Management Server (CMS). This is required to update content that is stored in the CMS database, such as localized strings for server properties.

To install the Service Pack, perform the following steps: 1. Launch the installation by running the following command from the Service Pack installation source file location: install.sh<INSTALLDIR> where <INSTALLDIR> is the installation directory of your SAP BusinessObjects product. 2. Review the content of the License agreement and proceed by selecting Y. 3. If the product you are updating includes server components, the "Enter information for existing CMS" screen appears. Enter the Hostname, Port Number, and Administrator Password of your CMS, and press Enter to continue. 4. If the product you are updating includes web components that were automatically deployed during your original SAP BusinessObjects installation, the "Redeploy Web Applications" screen appears. Specify whether or not you want the installation setup program to redeploy the web application components that were previously deployed. Choose from one of two options: Yes.

Once you have created the response file, you can run a silent installation by running the ./install.sh command and specifying the path to the response file. 1. Create a response file. a. From the Service Pack installation source file location, run the .install.sh command with the write option (-WRITERESPONSEPATH) specified:
./install.sh <INSTALLDIR> -WRITERESPONSEPATH <response_file_path>

where <INSTALLDIR> is the SAP BusinessObjects installation directory and <re sponse_file_path> is the path and file name for the response file you are creating. b. Press Enter to launch the installation setup program. c. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter your preferred installation settings until you reach the Start installation screen of the setup program. The settings are recorded in the response file. d. Press [Ctrl -X] to abort the installation setup. The parameters from the installation setup program, both user defined and default, are recorded in the response file which is saved to the directory you specified. 2. You can now run a response file installation by executing ./install.sh command with the -READRESPONSEPATH option specified:
./install.sh <INSTALLDIR> -READRESPONSEPATH <response_file_path>

3. Press Enter to launch the installation.
