According to Knight (1998), Christian teachers should seek to develop a positive educational philosophy based on a Christian world view.

In addition, integrating faith in teacher education should emphasize general principles of religious faith or those positive aspects and values that benefits society, such as compassion, respect and integrity. Responsive discipleship (Van Brammelen, 199) promotes this idea as it encourages teachers to help students to use their God given talents to develop their unique potential, it suggest that teachers should help students learn to share their joys and burdens and that teachers should promote peace and justice. A two part study was done involving teacher education faculty from different universities affiliated with churches of Christ. The first part asked individual faculty members what they thought about the integration of faith and learning and the second part focused on the teacher education program as a whole. The results showed that most respondents believe that faith should play a major role in teacher education at religiously affiliated programs. Likewise the majority agree that it was easy to integrate faith and learning. The results also showed that most programs do not have a formal way of integrating faith in the teacher education program. Finally they proposed a model for integrating faith in the teacher education program. Firstly, there should be a mission statement and secondly develop characteristics for faculty and students When I signed up to do this summer session I know that I had to be prepared to push a lot of work since summer is an intense session. I hate to read but I must say that I enjoyed reading this article on the integration of faith in learning. I think that it was so relevant and easy to understand. I especially love the part that suggested that integration of faith in education should not mean indoctrinating students but should emphasize general principles and values. I think that sometimes Christian based schools tend to lose sight of the purpose of integrating faith and

learning. As a student of a Christian university sometimes I am turned off by some of the lecturers and fellow students because instead of trying to instill values and morals they impose their beliefs or religion on you. I also liked the model they proposed for integrating faith in education. I believe that every teacher/faculty/school should have a mission statement, which should be the foundation for their programs. The core characteristics should be for both faculty and students. One of the important aspects of integrating faith and learning is that teachers need to practice what they preach. Therefore the characteristics that they implement in their classrooms should be reflected in their lives. I must say I love this article. It was so easy for me to relate to because I believe that this is what faith and learning should be about. I recommend this article for all teachers who agree with integrating faith and learning. As an aspiring teacher/educator, I would definitely use the strategies discussed in this article with my class/es. I think it is a good and subtle way of teaching morals and values. The strategies can be used for all subject areas; it is not limited to religion alone. The first step I would use for implementing these strategies is modeling. As the teacher I would set the example by modeling the behaviors I expect in my class. Another step I can use to implement these strategies is by encouraging group or cooperative work. This would help develop values such as cooperation and respect. I can also allow discussions on ethical issues. I can allow students to state their opinions about these issues and then we can discuss the consequences, solutions or recommendations. Finally I think it is very important that we begin classes with a word of prayer or wisdom. This can set the right mood as well as encourage students.
