From The Pastors Desk

Dear Parish Family, Peace and all good! Todays Gospel reading from John (3:16) is certainly one of the most famous quotations of Jesus from the entire New Testament: God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perishbut might have eternal life. What an appropriate reading for todays celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. Often, at Eucharist, the presider will greet the congregation with a blessing invoking the the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God our Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit. Peace. Love. And Fellowship. We profess as a central tenet of our Christian faith our belief in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirita concrete spiritual reality revealed to us by Jesus. It is this core belief that unites us with all other Christians and at the same time separates us from our Jewish and Muslim brothers and sisters. We do not believe in three gods; we believe in one God in three persons. Rather than get us all tangled up in the theological nuances and mechanics, the how of this doctrine-the Scriptures today bring us directly to the heart of our belief: the why of this essential mystery of faith . What gives the Trinity such importance and value to us is its total and complete emphasis on Gods Lovefor us! It compels us to enter into the incredible mystery of Gods tender regard for each and every one of us as well as Gods infinite love for all of us as His people. Fr. Raniero Cantalamessa, a Capuchin Franciscan priest, is the Popes personal preacher. (Imagine, he is the only person authorized to preach to the Pope, which he has done every Advent and Lent since 1980). Fr. Raniero speaks in this way about the Trinity: Christians believe that God is triune because they believe that God is love! If God is love, then he must love someone. There is no such thing as love of nothing, a love that is not directed at anyone. So we ask: Who is it that God loves so that he is

defined as love? ... God is love in himself, before time, because there is eternally in him a Son, the Word, whom he loves from an infinite love which is the Holy Spirit. He continues: The Trinity reveals the secret to good relationships. Love, in its different forms, is what makes relationships beautiful, free and gratifying. Here we see how important it is that God be seen primarily as love and not as power: love gives, power dominates. Love gives, power dominates. Amen!

Elsewhere in the Parish: This weekend we celebrate Fathers Day. We call to mind and heart our fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, fathers-in-lawand every man who has shown us a fathers love. Dads have a difficult job in todays society; let us support them with our friendship, prayers, and practical help.
Graduates. I would like to acknowledge, as well, all of members of our parish family who are graduating this yearfrom kindergarten through high school, college, and professional/ vocational training programs. We will be printing a list of all graduates in a coming bulletin issue. Congratulations on all your hard work, grads, and all the best to you in your future endeavors. Everyone is aware of how shaky the economy is at the moment, and how difficult it is to find work. Know that you have the friendship, love, and support of your parish in your struggles. 3 x 15. Were coming into the home stretch for our 3 x 15 campaign to raise funds for our OLG Sports Court/ Parking Lot. Hundreds of parishioners have already pledged to contribute $15 per month for three months (or $45, total) towards this important improvement in our parish plant. The project involves the asphalt paving of 80,000 square feet of surface behind the Serra Center, as well its marking for a variety of sports activities during the week (basketball, volleyball, walking/ running track, etc.) Many thanks for your generosity!
God bless, Fr. Chuck

Stewardship Message
God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life." - John 3:16 How can we say "thank you" to the God who has given His only Son to us? What can we give back in return? A life of stewardship is the only way to truly show our love and appreciation to God. A life of stewardship is a life of giving back time, talent and treasure to God..

The Coordinator maintains a list of funeral reception ministers who are available to set up, set out food and clean up after each reception in the Parish Dining Room. Our current Chair, Mae Signori, has served for more than two years and will be retiring from this ministry in July. MEDIA/BOOK OF THE WEEK: Growing Old and How to Cope with It

by Alfons Deeken

For the Widowed, Divorced and Separated

This is the time to make a reservation for the Beginning Experience Weekend to be held July 15-17, 2011, at the Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside. The weekend interactive retreat is for widowed, divorced and separated men and women who are ready to move beyond their grief. For more information call Maureen Schultz at (619) 447-0622 or Cathy Savel at (619) 222-9093 or email at mymom54@aol.com

Today we are living longer and the percentage of elderly in the total population is growing. At the same time, the price for stressing individualism and independence is isolation and loneliness, especially for the elderly. Beyond the need for reforms by society as a whole, there is the problem of attitudes which individuals need to develop toward aging if they want to master this period of life. In his book, Fr. Deeken offers insights gained from years of living in Asia where the elderly are considered and treated as honored members of society. He specifically discusses dangers, unique opportunities, challenges and joys of aging and the elderly. These psychological and spiritual aids can help those in the aging process to enjoy these years gracefully and fruitfully. These ideas can aid the middle aged as well in preparing for later life. Growing Old and How to Cope with It is a useful guide for the middle and later years of life. The ideas and insights offer ways to make the later years a time of great creativity, wisdom, insight and faith.

Del Escritorio del Prroco

Querida Familia Parroquial,
