PROGRAM INFORMATION
I understand Ill be earning two degrees. What will they be? The program leads to two, concurrently earned, undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with recommendation for teaching certification in Ontario and one of the following:
Honours Bachelor of Arts (H.B.A.) Honours Bachelor of Science (H.B.Sc.) Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (B.P.H.E.)

What areas of study can I opt for? We will focus on the preparation of Grade 7 to 12 teachers in the following areas: Chemistry, French, Mathematics, Music, Physical and Health Education, Physics, Religious Education. Another important offering will be the preparation of generalist teachers (Kindergarten to Grade 6) who are interested in learning how to teach in urban elementary schools. When does the Program begin? This program begins in September 2007 for students applying for the full five-year program. Students, who wish to join CTEP after one year of full-time study at the University of Toronto, may apply early in 2008 to begin the program in September 2008. (For students who have completed their first year in another program, four more years of full-time study will be required.) When should I apply? Deadlines can be found on the CTEP website: www.ctep.utoronto.ca. Evidence from other concurrent teacher education programs in Ontario suggests that competition for U of Ts places will be strong.

INTRODUCING THE CONCURRENT TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM (CTEP)

Concurrent Teacher Education in a Nutshell Our Concurrent Teacher Education Program (CTEP) is an inspiring new option for high school graduates and first year university students who are interested in a career in teaching. The program expands teacher education across the three University of Toronto campuses. Concurrent Teacher Education candidates complete two undergraduate degrees at the same time during four, or five years of full-time study. Upon successful completion, they are recommended for certification as elementary or secondary teachers in Ontario and then can enter the workforce. Concurrent Teacher Education: How it Works Concurrent Teacher Education allows undergraduates to complete both their professional teacher qualification and a second undergraduate degree simultaneously. This program option offers a greater degree of integration between a students two programs than is available in consecutive programs where the undergraduate degree is completed before education studies begin. Concurrent Teacher Education is a wonderful opportunity to learn holistically essentially, giving students greater learning opportunities.

CTEP: A NEW AND UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES

Be at the Forefront OISE/UT is one of the largest and most research-intensive faculties of education in North America and the premier place in Canada to study education. Concurrent Teacher Education is a new pathway to becoming a teacher at the University of Toronto, built on our experience from 100 years of preparing teachers. The program will evolve as faculty, teacher candidates and as well as school and community partners collaborate and provide feedback. Our approach to program design is highly consultative and flexible. Concurrent Teacher Education as a Career Move Ontario needs well-educated teachers, and this program seeks to fill that need. In the U of T approach, the undergraduate experience is infused with education relevance and emphasis is placed on a successful career in education from the very beginning. Whats more, concepts introduced early in the program are reinforced and expanded upon throughout the four or five years, ensuring graduates are thoroughly ready for the workplace both academically and professionally. For the Love of Teaching Concurrent Teacher Education offers the opportunity to gain a rich variety of teaching experiences over the entire undergraduate period. During 120 days of real-world teaching

experience, candidates will be able to work with children and young people in diverse contexts, and over the full four or five-year period. Concurrent Teacher Education will benefit the education system because it connects university thinkers with the broader community by linking candidates with schools very early in their undergraduate studies. Intellectual Challenge and Growth The integration of teaching practice, educational theory, research, and academic course work, is a core value of the program. Candidates are challenged throughout their undergraduate career to consider links between their two degrees. The Concurrent Teacher Education community benefits from a unique opportunity to interact with experts in teacher preparation across the university. Teachers Change the World CTEP was founded on the principles of equity, diversity and social justice. The program seeks to educate teachers who are committed to improving school environments and honouring these principles. Concurrent Teacher Education graduates will have accumulated more education-focused credits than many graduates of similar programs in Ontario. Our graduates will have completed the most number of days in the field and therefore made more contact with students and teaching. Frequent contact with students and teachers will help our graduates become confident and capable teachers.
