For Mac: Listening in stereo:

Set only the rst pair of outputs L/R to Built-In Output. Set the other outputs to None. Make sure the Decode AC3 Files is checked so that the les will play in your computer. The Portal will down-mix your 5.1 les to stereo. For PC: Listening in Stereo:

Set all three of the output pairs to the same audio output. Make the Enable AC3 Decode box is checked so the Portal can play your les. The Portal will down-mix your 5.1 les to stereo.

For Mac: Listening in 5.1 surround:

To listen in 5.1 surround from your Mac, you must have a 5.1 audio output device connected to your computer. Macs do not have internal 5.1 outputs, but if you have an external 5.1 channel output box - such as an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra or a MOTU Ultralite Mk3, you can listen to your 5.1 surround music les directly played from your computer. On a Mac for this application, set your output pairs to appropriate corresponding outputs on your external output device. Make sure the Decode AC3 Files box is checked so the Portal can play your les. (note: built in outputs above are just illustrating an example of setting all outputs. Macs do not support 5.1 output internally.)

To do this, set the Portal outputs as illustrated below. For a Mac, set only the L/R outputs to Built-In Output. Set the other outputs to None. (note: for PC version, PC settings should be similar - set the output to your PCs digital output, and un-check the Enable AC3 Decode box)
