Where is the LORD GOD of Elijah?

2Kings 2:13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan; 14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over. Before that scripture, you will appreciate that Elisha had gone through a separation with Elijah, when a chariot of fire took up Elijah & left him by the bank of river Jordan. You will appreciate that most of the time when terrible situations or tragedies happen, they always leave you before you even cross the river Jordan and you are left stranded. Before Elisha, the Jordan is flowing, a deep and rapid stream; how is he to cross it? He takes the mantle which those waters knew before, when Elijah passed that way, and striking them with it, he cries, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? and the waters at once divide, and the prophet Walks through. o Have you come to a great difficulty, my dear friend? o Cannot you get over it? o Are you in trouble about it? o Now, if this is a difficulty that ought to be removed, the shortest way to have it removed is to go to God about it. o If it be one that ought not to be removed, then also you have done rightly in going to God, for he who will not remove it will at least give you grace to glorify him in some other way. It could have looked like his cry, Where is the Lord God of Elijah was a cry of despair o May be you are even crying yourself and saying where is GOD when I am going through all this. But I will show you that it is a necessary cry in situations like these.

1. Elisha was saying a statement of needing & searching for GOD. Yes he was the armor bearer of the great prophet Elijah, but he was realizing that if He had the God of Elijah he would have everything, some people stop at being seen and noticed by the men of GOD, thats a mistake Elisha was saying beyond all the obstacles that I have I will press on to seeking GOD until I find him o When you sing, dont just sing for the time to be up, then announcements are made & the service goes on, sing until you get the GOD of the songs to come down. o When praying, pray until you get the GOD of the prayer to come down 2. Elishas statement Where is the LORD GOD of Elijah was a prayer i. The Lord that kept Elijah faithful when the rest of the nation had turned away from God to worship Baal & other man made Gods

said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. Next, this question, Where is the Lord God of Elijah? reminds me of Elijahs mighty power in prayer.
Jamess 5:16b The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Elijah prayed such prayers that moved the heavens, note his position & passion in this scripture:
1Kings 18:41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. 42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, 43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. 44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

As GOD provided for Elijah at the brook Cherith and at Zarephath

1Kings 17:3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. 5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. 1Ki 17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook. 7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. 8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

I think I hear you say, My store of meal is running very short, my flask of oil is almost empty. Where is the Lord God of Elijah? Why, he is with his Elias still, and he is with such widows as the widow of Zarephath still. Do you think that he is dead? o Has it crossed your mind that Divine Providence is a failure, and that God will no more provide for his own? Oh, think not so! If you keep strong in faith, you shall find that Jehovah Jireh is still his name, the Lord will provide. No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. God can help us to put such confidence in him that we shall find the Lord God of Elijah supplying our daily wants, and feeding us until we want no more.

The God that raised people from the dead by Elijah is the GOD that I want

And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed. 20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son? 21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again. 22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived. 23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

The Lord God of Elijah who came in a chariot of fire and took him out from earth, take me out of my situation with your chariots oh LORD GOD! Where is the LORD GOD of Elijah Question & Prayer Answered? The Lord God of Elijah is not dead, nor sleeping, nor on a journey. 1. He is still in heaven regarding his own reserved ones. They may be hidden, but the Lord knoweth them that are his. 1Samuel 13:6 When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait, (for the people were distressed,) then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in high places, and in pits. In caves These you never see them, dont attend home group, dont come for prayer, even withdrawn from church because of the problems that they are going though, BUT God know them and he loves them. In thickets These are there, but hidden in the crowd and with activity, wearing the same ushers uniform, choir uniform, but are in serious problems and you cant even tell BUT God knows & loves them. In rocks These have hardened their hearts because of the problems that they are in, and they are just closed up, BUT God knows & loves them. In high Places Living a life of pretence that everything is okay, representing and showing off. Saying the right words, Ask how are you-Im on top of the world, Im blessed, but they know its all lies, they are actually in deep trouble, and are just hiding instead of the real faith confronting. Pits These are those that have completely given up and lost hope, a pit is a grave with only one downward opening, and no way up, BUT God knows and loves them and still has a better plan. 2. He is still able to keep us faithful in the midst of a faithless generation, so that we shall not bow the knee to Baal. 3. He is still in the still small voice. Quietly he speaks to reverent minds: by calm and brave spirits he is achieving his purposes. 4. He is still reigning in providence to overturn oppressors (1 Kings 21:18-19), to preserve his own servants (2 Kings 1:10), and to secure a succession of faithful men (1 Kings 19:16). 5. He is still to be moved by prayer as he did with Elijah.
