Your welcome, Matt. BTW, that is "executive assistantS," plural.
The only advice I gave Don was to:
1) Never underestimate the staff, OGC --even if they are a new crop. The 6th and 4th floors
always try to roll Commissioners; never doubt this. And every dog will have his day ....
2) When deciding whether to hire a good secretary (SA), or hire more legal talent (EAs), hire the
more legal talent and make them do the secretarial duties you require. Republican Commission
offices (and the Sandstrom office of yore) are essentially defense counsel to the prosecutors that
are the 6th floor of the FEC. You will need all of the legal horsepower you can hire.
An added bit of advice to you.
Pre-meeting caucuses (usually Monday afternoons) are a good thing. They can cramp one's
schedule, but, on the whole, they are beneficial.
Oh, and make sure your office is getting enough copies of everything (1 green, 1 yellow for
enforcement matters; two blue for policy matters) so the EA handling, say, enforcement gets a
document as soon as you do.
Good luck. I have no recommendations for EA. In this job, you want an ideologue, not Gust) a
partisan. Knowing D from R is good at the end of the day, but it gives you NO ammo where
you'll need it most: at the dais.
_ _ _ Some of it just
won't make any sense, and will have little or no basis in the statute. Don't let it happen to you.
Hire lawyers as EAs, one's who put law above partisanship.

Of all these prospects, working with an FEC commissioner is the possibility I am most excited
about as it would expose me to all aspects of the FEC's operations and give me unparalleled
experience in the field of election law and policy. Essentially, it's my dream job and would jump
at the opportunity if offered.

P.S. (As a sidenote, one thing I noticed when I checked the confirmations is that Don's term is
scheduled to expire next year on April 30, while Matt's term is scheduled through April 30, 2011.
Although I would certainly be honored to work for either of them, I guess I would prefer to work
with Matt for the simple reason that he will be there for 3 years instead of the 10 months that
Don will serve. But honestly, if it ends up being that the only opportunity available is to work
with Don, then by all means I would still be very, very interested. Thanks again!)

summer intern. So I'm reaching out to a few trusted sources to see if

Technically, the slot is for a legal intern, but there's no requirement
that the intern actually be in law school. I realize this is a little

I checked Thomas today and noticed that both Don &
Matt were confirmed by the Senate on June 24th.
Have you heard anything from them in regard to my resume?
Of all these prospects, working with an FEC commissioner is the possibility I am most excited
about as it would expose me to all aspects of the FEC's operations and give me unparalleled
experience in the field of election law and policy. Essentially, it's my dream job and would jump
at the opportunity if offered.

P.S. (As a sidenote, one thing I noticed when I checked the confirmations is that Don's term is
scheduled to expire next year on April30, while Matt's term is scheduled through April30, 2011.
Although I would certainly be honored to work for either of them, I guess I would prefer to work
with Matt for the simple reason that he will be there for 3 years instead of the 1 0 months that
Don will serve. But honestly, if it ends up being that the only opportunity available is to work
with Don, then by all means I would still be very, very interested. Thanks again!)

Congratualtions on your appointment and confirmation to the FEC. It is such an exciting time for
campaign finance. My name is and I wanted to send you a quick email and introduce
myself. I am dear friends with
It is my understanding that the Commissioners are still seeking to fill two SA positions. I would love the
opportunity to be considered for one of these positions. I really enjoyed my time while at the FEC and
cherish it as it was there where I discovered my professional passion. It would be a true honor to be able
to return to the Commission and serve as a direct report to the Commissioners and help further the FEC's
ultimate mission to disclose campaign finance information, to enforce the provisions of the law such as
the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee the public funding of Presidential elections.
My resume is attached for your reference. I know you receive hundreds of emails every day and many
much like mine. However, I believe that unlike most candidates I will be able to lend an experienced and
