A) Consider Power factor (cos 1) = 0.70 1 = cos (0.70) tan 1 = tan (cos 0.70) = 1.0202 B) Required Power factor (cos 2) = 0.95 2 = cos (0.95) tan 2 = tan (cos 0.95) = 0.328 Capacitor Bank (Capacity of PFI Plant) required to enhance PF from 0.70 to 0.95 kVAR = kW (tan 1- tan 2) = 120 (1.202-0.328) = 120 X 0.6922 = 83.064 90 KVAR The 90 kVAR PFI plant (Auto) is capable for maintaining power fator from 0.70 to 0.95 lagging.
