Pallava & Chola Architecture 1.Pallavas ruled from 600 - 900 A.D. Their contributions are single cut rock tem ples in mahabalipuram & kanchipuram of T.N. 2.Chola Kings ruled from ( 900 - 1150 ) and included Raja raja chola - I & Rajen dra Chola who built temples as Brihadeshwara temple & Siva temple of Thanjavur. Rashtrakuta Architecture ( 5th - 8th Cen ) 1.Manyakheta of Gulbarga Dst 753 - 953 A.D 2.Ellora Kailasanath temple in a rock cut Architecture. 3.Jaina Narayana temple at pattadakal & Navalinga temple at Kuknur in karnataka. Islamic Influence 1.Islamic Architecture didnot support Idolatory, so central garbha griha is focu sed in 15th century Architecture. 2.Arches & domes ( Mosques ) began to form part of the landscape. 3.Sahn - Open courtyard for congregational worship with the enclosing structures . 4.Liwans - Closed walkway around courtyard. 5.Mihrab - Western wall of Sanctuary. 6.Qibla - Direction toward Mecca, offered a notional focus.

7.As Idolatory was prohibited, adornment was largely surface decoration through use of geometry, arabesque & calligraphy.Most popular Islamic architecture are M ausoleum ( Tombs ).
