Comparison Between `Motorized' and `Hydraulic' Car Parking System

A Safety Motorized Stacker Has a brake motor. The brake is always applied except during the intended motion of the stacker. Hydraulic Stacker Has a mechanical stopper at the top most position. The stacker can move down only if the stopper is retracted back. So if there is leakage at any point or any faulr with non-return valve the unwanted down ward motion will be stopped. The drive is through motor, pressurized hydraulic pack and the hydraulic cylinder. Comparitive Remark Stopper safety on hyd stacker is fucntional only at the top most position but in motorized stacker the brake safety is functional on the entire stroke of the stacker. In case of Motorized stacker, due to non back drivable gear box, the platform does not move unless motor is operated. In case of Hydraulic stacker the plat form can move down if there is leakage in cylinder and/or hydraulic circuit. Hydraulic stacker has fire hazard due to oil leakage. Oil leakage can also lead to slipary floors Motorized stacker does not need handling of Oil during maintainance avoiding possibility of human contact with Oil. Total load is distrubuted on 4 chains. Total load is taken by cylinder and one chain Safety issue related to failure of all load taking componets at a time has almost no probability in Motorized stacker as compaired to Hydraulic stacker.

No use of any medium/power source other Pressurized Hydraulic Oil is used in addition to than Electricity. Electricity as power source/transmission

The guiding length in hyd stacker is more requiring lesser clearances. In motorized stacker the guids are only to restrict lateral movement of platform, leading to almost no load on guides except sweying motion of platform. Due to high guiding length column height for hud stacker is more than Motorized stacker

Has two chains distributed on two pairs of columns. Does not have any actuators/sensors on moving mechanism.

Motorized stacker is much more noiseless than that of Hydraulic stacker. Hydraulic System operation gets adversely effected in cold weather In case of motor break down only one mechanical system becomes unoperational. For Hydraulic any problem with the power pack makes all 5-6 systems unoperational. All motorized systems can be operated at the same time. In case of Hydraulic system only one of the 5-6 systems connected to the same power source can be operated at the same time.

Systems operation is not effected by surroinding temperature East Stack unit has its own independent power source

In case of power failure upper vahical can be taken down by disengaging the mechanical brake on the motor and operating the double input shaft provided the gear box.

Parking systems are always The speed to take down will be same as normal provided with the generator operation backup. The power resuming time is normally very short and power failure is not of concern. However following points can also be considered in comparison point of view. In case of Hydraulic stacker, if the platform is resting on the safety stopper, it can not be operated in case of power failure. The platform has to be lifted to move the stopper from its loacked postion and this is not possible in power failure. Both the system need a trained person in this situation but operation on motorized system is safer.

Relocation and installation is easy as electricity supply is the only input required for the system E Cost Power is consumed during both (up and Effectiveness down) motion

Relocation and installation is complex due to Motorized stacker is easy for use routing of hydraulic piping (hoses and hard piping) and maintainance in addition to the electricity supply. Power is consumed only in up motion. Power consumption in case of Motorized stacker is more than Hydraulic stacker but the resultant cost difference per stacker per year works out to be less than Rs 80/- for 4 operations per day. This is easily compensated by the maintainance cost (material and manppower) requried for Hydraulic stacker. Maintenance cost for Hydraulic stacker is significantly higher than the maintenance cost of Motorized stacker. Hydraulic system is also more prone to contamination and is not suitable in dusty atmosphere. Oil handling and consumption cost adds to the electrical consumption.
